Bobby Rays totall changed the game?
Does anyone else think that Bobby Rays radically changed the game? Previously, it felt more like a scrounging game: you couldn’t get the perfect load out, so you experimented with what you found. It’s why I kept the winschester to the end game, tried out different shotguns and husbanded parts.

Now. I can get any weapon I want, unlimited parts and ammo is no longer a Consideration. I see some benefits: I love machine guns now, and don’t waste time crafting ammo or explosives, but it feels like it’s radically different from the original vision of the game. Any views?

Don't think I ever beat him up :steamfacepalm:
Just thought it was the cost of doing business in a sh**h**e country and didn't wanna upset the locals.

Well, if you yell "Elliot! You IDIOT!" while you are smacking him down, I've heard that gets results ....
It does make it much easier to put together a second team and have it use better-than-starting gear upon arrival, at least... which, is not entirely unreasonable? Like, once you have the funding that hirng 'legendary' merc is actually a reasonable decision, it seems not unreasonable that you should be able to e.g. have extra ammunition and some Kevlar available for him.

You can still burn through parts rather quickly and certain components (chips, for instance) seem to be very rare indeed, so there's still *some* scrounging. Seems like 40mm HE still needs to be hoarded, too (which is perfectly reasonable, because a scenario in which you could have six mercs each firing a 40mm HE round, reloading, and firing another 40mm HE round, every turn, would be... a lot of boom).

Bobby Ray's existed in JA2. The Grecos at the airport (I think there was only one dropoff point back then?) used to steal sh*t from you all the time. Not entirely sure why BR wasn't launched together with JA3 though.
you had to beat him up a little than he swear that wont do that again, and giving you some trash in return
But actually he really never do it again

Edit: lol someone already mention that kek
You could also slip him a little "coffee money" to help him keep his eyes open.

both campaigns i ran snipers, so ammo was never a problem.
also the lever action (short barrel; +3 autoaim (debateable)) is extremly strong from start to finish. obviously not on long range, but due to the low AP, it beats sniperrifles easily. AP free weaponswap makes it even better.

on my 1st run i had about 4-5 dragunovs, no barret, 12+ m24s, 4-5 lever actions and the rest used g98s (also ARs for (underbarrel launchers))
on my (current) 2nd run (just wiped out the military invasion) i have 2 dragunovs (hunter camp), 1 barret, ~3 m24s, ~3 lever actions and LOTS of g98s.

bobby rays wasnt available back then. obviously the game is still very much beatable with low-tier g98s, but since ammo isnt a problem, reducing the RNG (or quickload the sh_t out of some easy boxes) via bobby rays seems ok.
no idea how a bobby rays shopping spree from start to finish might affect the weapon selection, but you can simply not use it.

also you (probably (dunno lol)) can gear up for the military invasion and prep some crazy sh_t there (beyond ivan taking out 6 squads, bc he´s ivan)

also since the shipment arrives at the west side of the map and you can easily have maximum AIM mercs after clearing A2, commie town, beantown and port cacao (in that order), getting the stuff rom west to east simply is another layer... except your plan is to leave smiley behind to train milita.

didnt require bobby rays to enjoy the game (a lot), but from my short tests, the implementation seems fine. also i didnt like or use the hit% mod, which became the most downloaded mod (pretty much instantly) and then was added to the base game itself. devs arent always right. far from it. looking at the other titles released this year...

well implemented optional options that are demanded from the playerbase leads to happy customers.

Yes, but the devs of this game are a bit spineless and will just give the loudest voices whatever they want.

The game is better as a scrounging and "make do with what you get" game, although that meant their poor balance decisions pushed people towards rifle spam.

Their solution has just been to remove the scarcity aspect completely so people can sandbox anything and everything.

If you don't like Bobby Ray's, then you don't have to use it. You can do your playthroughs completely ignoring it.

So I don't get why people are upset because OTHER people are using Bobby Ray's. It's as if people feel like everyone else must play the way they themselves like to play.
It is a bit weirdly gated, like trigger a certain event and immediately thereafter the M82 and PSG-1 go from "never available for sale" to "common and we even have multiple in stock every refresh, including in mint condition" it seems. Progression's understandable but perhaps they should have been phased in with increasing frequency, rather than a hard transition.
