Bobby Rays totall changed the game?
Does anyone else think that Bobby Rays radically changed the game? Previously, it felt more like a scrounging game: you couldn’t get the perfect load out, so you experimented with what you found. It’s why I kept the winschester to the end game, tried out different shotguns and husbanded parts.

Now. I can get any weapon I want, unlimited parts and ammo is no longer a Consideration. I see some benefits: I love machine guns now, and don’t waste time crafting ammo or explosives, but it feels like it’s radically different from the original vision of the game. Any views?

Not really. I never had ammo problems since I made sure to diversify my guns and I never used the crafting to make anything but 40mm HE rounds. What I do buy a lot of from BRs are magazines and grenades. Occasionally I get lucky and find a sweet early deal on an Anaconda or machine gun.

Now I’ll get and buy snipers lol

Without Booby Ray's, it did feel like the early game JA2 poverty, scavenging experience. I really enjoyed that no ammo, no good guns, return to Tarkov experience.

With Booby Ray's, it's now like the late game JA2 experience, you're making bank, heaps of money, heaps of guns and ammo, life is good, and I also love a good ol Murica kicks ass type game experience.

Bobby Ray's existed in JA2. The Grecos at the airport (I think there was only one dropoff point back then?) used to steal sh*t from you all the time. Not entirely sure why BR wasn't launched together with JA3 though.

According to one of the recent broadcasts, the JA3 devs wanted to cater to weapon fans while allowing for a proper way to introduce new guns and mods (Tons of Guns, etc).
Bobby Rays is the easiest and cleanest way to do it all. It also caters to players who might find the game hard, or just enjoy more OP weapons at the start.

I've always seen it as optional play, not a core mechanic of the game. I think it's a great addition for the majority of players, especially those new to the franchise. You can squat on mines and buy OP weapons early, or decide you can't afford it and hope to scrounge it. Or just want a way to make up for that one missing mod. I've seen chips, pipes and lenses sold there, although rarely.

There's also supposedly an algo for how JA3 BR shipping costs are calculated (distance inland, danger zone, etc), which makes it somewhat more dynamic. JA2 BR mainly factored volume and speed.

There's probably still some balancing needed on how much BR items should cost.

The only reason I was/am glad with the gun shop is that I finally got my hands on a .50 rifle. Hadn't seen one in two full play throughs so finally seeing the last gun was nice. Otherwise, I didn't particularly use it nor did I need it. Honestly, there is so much to be found in the game already the balance isn't particularly affected.

I know this is a dissident POV, but AR's are king in this game. As long as you keep shooting from stealth (with AP ammo), there is very little you can't deal with (quite) easily. Gun stats aren't that relevant compared to shooter stats and skills. Of course, underslung grenade launchers are especially effective. The stuff you can get quite early one is perfectly adequate for the job all the way to the end. Different guns are mostly for fun.

Try BCE Guns + BCE Loot mods. Might be a bit too expensive right now but you gonna get this feeling back of things being rare.

Только ломики и журналы ! а так Боби ломает (упрощает) эту игру

Only crowbars and magazines! and so Bobi breaks (simplify) this game

When I started playing JA3 they had already put Bobby Rays in. I think I would've felt rather unhappy without it, tbh, even though the majority of what I get is from scrounging still. BR lets me actually have a little fun with one MG in each of my parties, though even with BR they are still very hungry beasts! Like some other commenters here, I try to mix up my gun choices so that none of my squads is too heavily dependent on any one ammo requirement and that's led me to find some weapons I've really enjoyed using and some others that immediately go to the scrap heap every time I come across them, lol.

Even with BR, I find myself occasionally crafting ammo. It's almost always the 7.62 WP stuff, as the pair of RPKs that I have (one each in 2 squads) go through it like poop through a goose, but sometimes I also end up crafting the 7.62 Nato stuff b/c a lot of different guns seem to all use that. If I want to get extra fruity and have time on my hands I'll sometimes convert standard rounds into tracer or armor piercing variants. The other thing that sometimes needs crafting are the sabot 12 gauge rounds, though not too often.

Aside from that, HE grenades ... I wish there was a simple way to convert the multitude of flash bang grenades that I find into HE grenades ... I do use the FBs for some things, particularly early on in fights, but I'm almost always running out of HEs :p

It's actually interesting when running out of certain kinds of ammo/explosives, forces you to rotate to other strategies. I've started using remote-TNTs and even pipebombs more recently. The former is a killer if you know the enemy approach vector and can plant them ahead of time. The latter flushes enemies out from buildings and cover into more open areas, or kills them since the AI somehow thinks it's better to stay put in cover.
Smoke/tear gas works great as well when trying to contain/segment the battlefield.

In JA2, you could beat up the guy stealing your deliveries, after that there wouldn't be any thefts.

Flash bangs are actually pretty darn great to use as crowd control. You can keep incoming trouble out in the open for another turn and that should be more than enough time to finish things.
