Need 7.62mm Nato standard. Option not available in craft screen
I'm almost out of 7.62mm Nato standard for my Gehwers.. I must have blown it all using the MG I have.. I found a crafting ammo square, but 7.62mm Nato is not one of the ammo available I can make.. How do I get to be able to make this ? Can I buy some somewhere ? I'm early game

you made a mistake using MG or using full auto weapons early game. you are better off using single shots.

You need 10 scrap parts and 1 gunpowder and you can only craft in specific sectors with workshops. Each craft will give you 30 bullets. Not a lot but enough if you are smart about your ammo consumption.

if you have pipebombs in inventory menu you can use right click/combinethem with wirecutters to get one gunpowder.

10 parts/ 1 gunpowder give 30 nato bullets

if you have older saves you can backtrack a few hours and not make same mistake. I did the same mistake first time.

The explosives skill of the merc you use to do the crafting determines which recipes appear in the ammo crafting menu. If you have gunpowder and materials and the recipe doesn't appear you probably need someone with higher explosives skill to do the crafting. Someone like Barry Unger for instance. Or you can switch to using whatever weapons you do have ammo for. I have yet to find any vendor who sells Nato ammo.

I am using Barry as my explosive guy... He can't make 7.62 nato.. I'd have to go back like 10 missions on a save game to get it back

In the early game try to use the weapons that have a lot of ammo and spare the best for only one member like a sniper. Plus in the early game the enemies are easier so 9mm ammo is ok.

Is the UZI the best 9mm gun if you had to choose between it or MP5K and MP40 ?

i like the uzi you can mod it for longer range as for the other two I only like the one that have longer range and I scrape the ones I don't use.

weird. I have Barry and I believe he can make all ammo. I know he can make NATO. Do you have 10 parts, 1 gunpowder? Did you by some reason mistake normal ammo for maybe match or AP? If you have less than standard 30 ammo you can't craft match and AP. Maybe this is reason for confusion?

Also maybe NATO is displaced in craft options. I think I remember some ammo not being in its correct place but positioned few places after.

FYI you need basic ammo in order to make special ammo. You also need parts and powder to make more basic ammo so you can then turn that into special ammo like armor piercing and the others. At the start I always have Barry for his grenades as well as making ammo and explosives and for his ability when it comes to defusing mines.

Oh.. it looks like I don't have any gunpowder.. I have never seen a pipe bomb or gunpowder in the game yet

MP5K is a better close quarters gun due to it's lower AP use (especially nice with Run and Gun) but Uzi has better range and allows you to carry extra grenades in hand.

As for ammo:
If you're going to run the MG-42 early on, you'll have to use 7.62 NATO for only that gun. I've done it during my first playthrough, and ran a HK-21 I got in a weapons shipment during my latest playthough. It can be done, but as others have said: you're better off using single shot weapons early on.

Best ways to acquire 7.62 NATO apart from crafting is to loot groups killed by militias. It's not uncommon for a fully loaded MG-42 or 2 to drop, and so do some M14s.

on ernie island on emerald coast (where there is Deedee) on that map there should be a destroyed jeep. I remember that there is gunpowder in boxes next to that jeep. And I think 95% of Ernie is specific loot. not random generated. Save your game. Send your team back to ernie and look for that map. And if I'm wrong you didn't waste your progress.

Well I guess we don't know where you are in the game however I can only suggest when you visit a new sector you need to search for items and or loot the enemies and stuff like that so you can get as many things as you can find.

Scrape all the guns and clothes that you don't need or can't use due to no ammo and you will have lots of parts and even some ammo what was in those guns. I like each member to have a medical kit but when I find more I scrape them too so I have more meds for healing.

Pliers and pipebomb combine to make gun powder but when you find C4 I always have Barry make HE rounds for my assault rifles.

Caught me in last play through also. The UI is not crystal clear why you can't craft something. Found out I was out of parts to make basic ammo at the time.

Also - if you leave one guy alone in a 'team' to make ammo - make sure gunpowder is in their inventory and his 'team' has scrap. Made that mistake too! (same rule applies for converting say normal 9mm into AP or match - that solo team has to have normal ammo to convert).
