The Beast is a fool and is bugged
I cleared Ille Morat and Belle Eau before finding Beast's shack or fixing all the broken idol's. I never talked to her ex-husband inventor guy. It just so happened, when I entered Belle Eau to clear it, a patrol was in the area, so there were extra mobs. As usual, the Beast ran far ahead of my group, solo engaged WAY TOO MANY enemies and was killed. The Beast is an idiot.

Ille Morat has a message, the peasants are unhappy need 60% happiness, but their happiness is 100%. I went to Beast's shack, lo and behold, she is standing outside offering cookies (I guess there are zombies in this game). Her ex-husband still won't talk to me, he says she is dead because of me.

First, Beast is dead because Beast is reckless and foolhardy. How is that my fault? It's not. Second, the message is wrong saying I need 60% while it is already 100%. Third, if beast is dead, how is she standing at her shack baking cookies?

So, there are some bugs. I use one mod, extra options. I have six IMP toons and slight increase to starting money so I can afford 6 IMP.

Speaking of mods, any news on the next update? Mod tools?

Same thing. Found her first. Beast ran next to a knife guy. Knife guy reaction stab crit the beast. I played it again a few times, But she just kept running into the middle of enemies. Even sneaking around I could never make it to save her.

I had the same experience in combat. She entered the map on the other side from my mercs, next to a bunch of trained hyenas and enemies. Died on the next enemy turn.

Same for me ! She just appeared on the OTHER corner of the map for me and fought and died until i managed to arrive there and help.. quite UNFAIR !

I managed to finish the quest but the mine itself is bugged because I cleared the guards first, then talked with the Beast. It always shows there are enemies at D18, but there is no one alive, I cannot capture the mine and cannot start any operations.

It's really annoying, this is first rather serious bug I encountered.

The beast is stupid, if anything she should just be another Native recruit that joins your team and doesn't cost anything.

All friendly NPCs have terrible and suicidal AI, this has been noted many times before.

Anyone who says that the maps in JA3 are too small has never tried to make their mercs do a suicidal dash across the beach to save The Beast from getting vaporised by the six or so goons who spawn right next to her.

Some people are struggling with The Beast. You can cross check to see what quest checks that you are missing. This is vanilla playthru, no mods installed.

My only tip i can give is to complete everything, training some militia at D17, taking mine at D18, Batman, etc, ....before finally asking The Granny/Beast to join the fight against the Legion.

Having some militia at D17 is important before doing the Batman thing, because i think it's a scripted event, and you need some militia there to draw enemy fire away from the Beast. In the Forest sectors, helps a lot if you have at least one merc who can Run and Gun or with lots of free move, to keep up with The Beast.


The Beast Runs and Guns with the Commando. After seeing her in action, some of my mercs also started using the Commando. I like using this setup now.

To be safe, in my current playthrough, I fixed all the totems, talked to the beast and her ex, but refrained from asking for the suicidal granny's assistance, she is more hindrance than help and I would be penalized for her death.

Yeah, watch today's twitch stream for hints on how to give your Mercs some more free movement so they can run and gun alongside The Beast. She is suicidal, but you can make it work.

WTF, she just showed up for me, I asked her husband if she could help. But he said something vague and then suddenly she shows up middle of enemies which is against my stealth approach. I hate NPCs in this game.

My initial problem may have been caused by mods created before the official mod tool dropped, though I don't see how. I don't enjoy ally NPCs messing up my approach. Certainly, the easiest way to avoid this is to NEVER click on any "will X help..." dialogue options.

I can't tell if the bugs are still there, because I will never again allow the beast to die.

Yeah, I should stop clicking. I always expect an old time "Recruit" event like in JA2 but its just "Idiot NPC gets killed by enemy".
