Don't forget to hunt down diamond shipments moving around the map.
Also, if you take too much damage, you'll spend too much time and money healing, and maybe you are also cycling out injured mercs and not getting your damage deposit back. All those things eat up your budget.
But yeah for cash looting chipped sapphires and large diamonds for cash. And going out to intercept diamond shipments should keep you swimming in money.
Hire that cheap doctor and that cheap mechanic with rifle, they are both recruits so won't cost much.
After you kill the guys in the starting map do recon, it will show you secret stash etc. Go to the village. Once you have killed the baddies, train militia until you have maximum amount of Militia. You will probably get attacked. Once you have full militia, hire barry, go to the Minefield, it's called emerald coast. you will find a couple smgs and kill some dudes.
You should have a couple AK's now too. You will probably need to heal, while doing that hire Grizzly or another recruit, I recommend grizz. Now go to the east, the boat will be able to drop right at a mine. Don't worry about clearing the tutorial island fully, you can come back to it.
Once you have taken the first mine. train militia. you should have found some artifacts too. I sold mine because I'm a mercenary not some archaeologist. Now go to the docks too the south. Make sure you scout before you move, it will help you get some gear on the way. FYI you need to explore the sectors as you go... just incase you didn''t know. Once you clear out the dock go to the mine to the south east... you are now well on your way to making a decent income.
Don't spend time on operations unless absolutely necessary.
Capture 3 mines, complete different quests to increase loyalty. Go for other mines and complete quests there. Currently I own 5 mines (got a warning about one of them depleting soon), they generate 19k per day while 2 my teams cost me 4k per day. Game becomes boring at this point.
Moneymakers ordered by valueproposition:
Mines, the only source of daily income and buffed by nearby settlements with high loyalty. Even Diamond Red and the Mine near Cacao Town by themselves can make you filthy rich of you defend the nearby communities well.
Diamond Shipments, spawn about once per week ferrying 12.5k worth of diamonds around the map. They are nice loot piñatas to be harvested if in a convenient path. Hunting those out of your way usually isn't worth it even with a low cost team.
But with a lone IMP you could do that in a pinch. Taking a patrol with a single merc isn't the easiest thing in the world, but it isn't impossible either. Especially if you snipe, withdraw and repeat the process as needed.
Random precious stone drops
Any enemy has a chance to drop Chipped Sapphires, tiny or large diamonds you can sell from Inventory or at Fleatown church for a better price.
Parts. This is scraping the barrel, but you can sell 30 or so parts for 500 about every two days on fleamarket.
You can get Livewire's marksmanship up to 85 in 4 training sessions, and correct her other weaknesses just as quickly. With her wallhack ability and no weaknesses she's godlike.
As soon as you have positive cash flow everyone should be trained up to 85+ marksmanship.
If you didn't start your IMP with 85 wisdom, leadership and teaching you should have.
