Max Merc limit?

I am using the mod that allows me to hire many mercs. I have it set to 40 (now), but after 27 it says I can't hire any more, "I have too many." So my question is, is there a maximum limit on the total number of mercs? I have one IMP and the rest are AIM hires. Or is there a limit on total salary maximum or AIM hires (maybe the initial number without mods?)? I am just trying to learn the mechanics for future play throughs. One of my squads desparately needs a medic, lol. Or can I have unlimited IMP mercs if I make all my mercs instead of hiring AIM mercs?

IMP +14 from AIM -> 15.
no idea if the IMP counts as #15 or AIM only goes to 14 and the IMP is extra.
pierre, flay, smiley, larry + that guy DONT count.
thus 20 is cap, which is more than enough, especially when going back to the island and setting up 19 overwatches before starting a mortar salvo.

since you use mods, afaik multiple IMPs mod exists. no idea what it is since in play vanilla. sh*ts easy enough^^

There must be a limit on AIM mercs. Using the Unlimited IMPs mod, I can added IMP mercs at will.

question is how many AIM mercs you have and whether or not your mods changes that.
baseline is 14+1 IMP

15 AIM mercs + IMP + the free ones. I have 17 mercs now (15 AIM + IMP + Larry)
