For example; there was one fight where Kalyna alone killed nine enemies with here 98.
At least, it's all about tactics. ;-)
You can delete 30+ standing together guys in a single turn. Spread them apart, and you kill nothing - it takes two HE rounds to kill a single late-game enemy on Mission Impossible.
You can, quite literally fire 5 times a turn with high AGI as it costs only 5AP to fire. The cost drops to 4AP with Heavy Weapons Perk. You can fire it up to 6 times if your name is Ivan and you get even a single kill. Hell you could reload it and fire it plenty more as Ivan as long as your killing with it.
It has:
Sniper Rifle Range.
30-50 unavoidable damage in a huge area.
Undodgable, breaks all cover, armour does not stop it.
Can be fired blind, around corners, over objects.
You can delete entire buildings with it.
It's deadly even when your skills with it suck.
I do not even begin to see how you could struggle to kill enemies with the grenade launcher. Even if you shot at single targets, you can easily get 4 shots a turn and kill 2 guys, putting the grenade launcher above other weapons in literally the WORST CASE.
Maybe against yourself.
But I do concur that 40 mm grenades - no matter how they are delivered - can be very deadly and economical in right hands.
The splash radius is so wide, that if you directly aim at a guy and you get the most serious mishap, you'll still hit him. You literally cannot miss with it unless you yourself, are unable to precisely left click on someone.
40mm could do with some exploding barrel shenanigans if your skill is below 30.
However, as far as I am aware l, your C4 supply is incredibly dependant on lucky drops.
The only guaranteed spawn I know of is one crate in Ernie fort. And even there you might find between 1 and 6.
At least if'ts more fun that way. Never tried full sniper team.
I'd say 2 snipers, 1 very good melee for sneaking and spotting enemies, 1 explosives expert, 2 all around guys primarily for assault rifles for overwatching and grenade launchers.
Properly upgraded assault rifle is very good weapon for middle range. Just do not try to make it a sniper rifle. Also right perks help a lot.
Sometimes you just need those guys who can do overwatch against large number of enemies, also those grenade launchers really make difference.
Edit: SMGs are trash (for whatever stupid reason AKSU and Commando are SMGs rofl), avoid
Dual Glock 18 with overwatch build.
hire kalyna for 3 days to get gewehr #1.
loot the bunker-grave for more gewehre.
at this point ammo might become an issue, but probably not yet.
get to the hunter camps. buy the dragunov. then accept the flay quest (maybe you need to finish it to:) buy another dragunov. but also always buy more ammo from vendors if available, bc it´s dirt cheap.
at this point i got 3rd dragunov from a crate and since there´s a lot of useless AK47s, half my ammo usage was removed. short story: dragunov doesnt need ammo. rpk is fun and you got enough ammo so whatever. fully mod it with everything + thermal (the 2 hunter camp ones come with thermalol)
dont use peacemakers, since you need the ammo for lever actions, which hopefully pentiful dropped. cut those short, bc AP.
slap a +3 auto aim + silencer on every gewehr + lever action.
(currently i got ~25% of the map cleared on my 2nd run, got 14 mercs and every single one of them has a +3autoaim+silencer gewehr (+5 lever actions, +3 dragunovs (lucky aF)) (also zero ammo problems when it comes to nato, but i will create more)
m24 part: this is good enough to finish the game but probably you get a bunch of m24 (got roughly 12 in the first run (no 50cal tho)), which removes free-movement, thus set it up correctly... since it has a bipod and the gewehr does not, f*ck free-movement, give to every bad shot who doesnt have a dragunov.
psg: straight upgrade and ~80%+ critchance with hollowpoint and that 5%crit per aim Tier 1 talent. from my experience most military enemies dont have helmets. if they do, the groin is usally unarmored, which makes the crit just more satisfying.
non-boss enemies usually die with 1 or (if armored) 2 shots. (normal ammo, which you can craft (in a package of 15-30 packs)).
how much ammo does a g41 or fnfal burst cost and how many does it kill?
a modded sniper makes a 60 MM merc on par with a 90 MM merc. zero talents required.
how´s that with assault rifles?
simply no comparison.
that said, having an assault rifle to use it´s grenade launcher is pretty legit, especially during the military assault (if you chose to defend everything).
also deagle + cobra are decent.
deagle because u likely wont have enough lever actions and/or barrets.
cobra bc it´s cool.
glock is fine to get rid of tiny amounts of those truckloads of 9mm you will have. also it´s quite decent vs early + mid legion bois.
submachineguns are useful to create expanded mags for your sniperrifles.
the only reason to not use a sniperrifle is to set up an overwatch with raven and save even more sniperrifle ammo. not sure if you can up an overwatch with 0 loaded bullets, but i´d try.
But how do you get even a dozen of 40mm HE grenades ? Didn't reach end game but for 2 months I got only 2... And not enough explosives to make much more neitehr
got ~10-15 HE 40mm nades on the first run. (1 loaded launcher, several loaded ARs).
no idea if that´s lucky, that´s just the RNG the game threw at me.
crafting them isnt an option if you ask me.
however if you really want to force it, like seriously, you can make a save before you enter a sector with an quick & easy crate (for example having a machete at the bus stop gang sector (just did that, that´s why i remember)). the bushed up crate can have a spawn with 1 steel pipe, 1-2 40mm flashnades, 1-2 40mm HE nades.
also that´s an early game crate.
as said, if you want to force it. i wouldnt recommend it, because... jesus that´s boring and you´re definitely playing the long game (while probably counting on a RNG nade-launcher)
