So what weapons are the best choice?
I heard somewhere that absolutely all your mercs should have sniper rifles + silencer and no other weapon needed. Is it true or other weapons also good to use?

Not true because of limited ammo and some areas with too many enemies

Rifles backed up by explosives will get you through the whole game without dedicated builds.

All other weapons can be made to work with the correct mercs, perks and mods.

Gewehr + headshot will get you through the first half of the game. Replace with Dragunov when possible. Grenades and explosives are also very useful.

there is no best choice weapon. everything is a viable option. it depends on your playstyle. if you want to camp out of range and just snipe people you pick 6 sniper rifles.

im having pure melees in my team without any guns on them.
some guys like barry run around with a pumpgun blasting 4 guys in 1 turn away and increasing the entire squad morale each turn
ive got vicky and meltdown run around with dualwield pistols or dualwield uzi or throw grenades around the place.

sure it would be better on alot of maps to just sneak around the map with silenced sniper rifles but that ♥♥♥♥ gets boring after a while. ive scrapped every sniper rifle in my MI run

All weapons are good.

I'd say Sniper are the best long range weapons until you get access to good moded ARs and enough ammo supply for LMGs.

Sniper is the best guaranted 1 turn 1 kill weapon and best early game weapon for various reasons (ammo, range, damage...). It's hard to do more than 1 kill/turn with sniper though

ARs and LMGs are best weapons for overwatch

LMGs specialize in overwatch while moded ARs are very precise and good at everything.

Melee and shotguns are best close ranged weapons, if you have the range and perks they are guaranted multi kills weapons and they procure insane mobility.

For me shotguns are the most fun and OP weapon currently in the game

Pistols are economic and pretty decent at closing range with mobile shot and use 3 ap shots with short barrel

SMGs have different uses mid/close range

Both statements are not mutually exclusive. Sniper Rifles are OP, and every merc carrying them backed by grenades = an easy (but boring) win, even on Mission Impossible. However, it does not mean that you cannot use other weapons. For instance, I'm using 2*SR + AR + Shotgun/Grenade + Melee squad setup. Before the 1.03 patch, I was using only one Sniper. Unfortunately, the patched LMG sucks, so I replaced it with the second SR.

If you want the most powerful setup, then get 6*SR and put grenades in the secondary slot. Since you don't need to switch slots to throw grenades, you can make a sniper shot + throw a grenade every turn. But it quickly becomes boring.

I still do not understand why dual pistols exist in the game, in close range merc always missa shot when shoot with two pistols, but always hit with 1 (and damage is low to kill anyone), also at mid/far range also missed every time. I do not understand what purpose they have at all, so I remove all merks who use dual pistols.

What is also a possibility is to use the SRs without silencers.

It is then still quite OP but just not quite so.

i dont agree too. for snipers u need long distance enemeys clear line of fire (sight not always needed but there should be a clear line with no objects in the way) and because of limitation of shots (1 max 2 if you have the right perks) an overwhelming enemy by numbers cant be defeated with only snipers. you need at least some mid term mercs (assault riffles) and maybe a melee or a gunner. but that depends on playstyle. i am not using any shortrange mercs but that doesnt mean its a a bad choice. its just my personal team which should everybody consider by themself whats the best team is. but just to concentrate at one type of weapon is a big disadvantage later or if the enemys get harder.

try to kill 90 enemys with only snipers xD

Every merc can be "overpowered" with virtually any weapon so long as their build is fine.

I use a mix of 2 snipers (one with backup LMG) , 1 "grenadier" with shotgun, and 2 "all rounders" with ARs (or Glocks for Fox)
LMG is only used when map and number of enemies warrant it, due to high ammo consumption
Can swap 1 sniper for a CC specialist like Blood

The best weapon in the game is the grenade launcher with HE rounds. It isn't a contest, anyone who thinks otherwise has no idea what they are talking about.

You can delete 30+ guys in a single turn with this thing, it is so overpowered it makes other overpowered things look like a joke.

Next up: Silenced Sniperifles - Deleting at least one, if not 2 people every turn.

I think everything else is certainly viable, but these two are by far the most powerful, with the grenade launcher being so powerful as to be literally comical.

If "overpowered" means "most damage per turn against crowds", sure. Not in any other respect though.

These things are always relative. Firing a grenade launcher on machete brute within striking distance or another hostile next to a friendly might end up badly for you.

Try mobile shotgunner... its crazy because you can shotgun in the face multiple people as long as you have action points, each shot gives you free move to move to next victim.. If you use modded shotgun with short barrel, you have multiple shots per turn and point blank shots into head are always deadly..

Works esp. well if you have perks for extra free move + the one giving you "Grit" when out of cover ^^
