All other weapons can be made to work with the correct mercs, perks and mods.
im having pure melees in my team without any guns on them.
some guys like barry run around with a pumpgun blasting 4 guys in 1 turn away and increasing the entire squad morale each turn
ive got vicky and meltdown run around with dualwield pistols or dualwield uzi or throw grenades around the place.
sure it would be better on alot of maps to just sneak around the map with silenced sniper rifles but that ♥♥♥♥ gets boring after a while. ive scrapped every sniper rifle in my MI run
I'd say Sniper are the best long range weapons until you get access to good moded ARs and enough ammo supply for LMGs.
Sniper is the best guaranted 1 turn 1 kill weapon and best early game weapon for various reasons (ammo, range, damage...). It's hard to do more than 1 kill/turn with sniper though
ARs and LMGs are best weapons for overwatch
LMGs specialize in overwatch while moded ARs are very precise and good at everything.
Melee and shotguns are best close ranged weapons, if you have the range and perks they are guaranted multi kills weapons and they procure insane mobility.
For me shotguns are the most fun and OP weapon currently in the game
Pistols are economic and pretty decent at closing range with mobile shot and use 3 ap shots with short barrel
SMGs have different uses mid/close range
If you want the most powerful setup, then get 6*SR and put grenades in the secondary slot. Since you don't need to switch slots to throw grenades, you can make a sniper shot + throw a grenade every turn. But it quickly becomes boring.
It is then still quite OP but just not quite so.
try to kill 90 enemys with only snipers xD
LMG is only used when map and number of enemies warrant it, due to high ammo consumption
Can swap 1 sniper for a CC specialist like Blood
You can delete 30+ guys in a single turn with this thing, it is so overpowered it makes other overpowered things look like a joke.
Next up: Silenced Sniperifles - Deleting at least one, if not 2 people every turn.
I think everything else is certainly viable, but these two are by far the most powerful, with the grenade launcher being so powerful as to be literally comical.
If "overpowered" means "most damage per turn against crowds", sure. Not in any other respect though.
These things are always relative. Firing a grenade launcher on machete brute within striking distance or another hostile next to a friendly might end up badly for you.
Works esp. well if you have perks for extra free move + the one giving you "Grit" when out of cover ^^
