So if you're aiming for an Imp that has Heavy Weapons and Auto Weapons to utilize LMGs, you really should invest a few points into strength.
however Bufftucker is correct. strength reduces LMG deploy AP & rotate
IMP str 83 = 5 Set up, 2 Rotate, 1AP pack up
Grizzly str 96 = 3 set up, 1 rotate, 1AP pack up
both have Heavy weapon skill
Mouse str 53 = 9 Set up, 4 Rotate, 1AP pack up
Vicki str 70 = 7 Set up, 3 Rotate, 1AP pack up
Barry str 84 = 5 Set up, 2 Rotate, 1AP pack up
no heavy weapon skill on these 3
Heavy weapons only reduce the shooting AP
Dex would be needed for stealth kills and aiming, as well as accessing many useful perks. But agility and marksmanship, and a trait like Auto Weapons and/or CQC Training are more relevant in aggressive use since your goal would be making most use of Run and Gun. Free movement bonuses help a lot with that, as does being able to swap ammo as needed with quick mag modification in place.
For field mechanics and disarming, you'll have a dedicated merc like Barry or Livewire. Dex does impact odds of stealth kills, and is counteracted by the target's wisdom. It's not as relevant as Stealthy trait and perks and mods, though. Accuracy is only affected by dexterity where aiming is applied, but I'm not sure if overwatch and special attacks get inherent aiming bonuses and UV Dot always provides on level of aiming anyway.
It also reduces the AP cost for setting down and packing up, not just shooting.
---
Skills matter, but not as much as stats and traits. You'll want good wisdom for your I.M.P. mercenary since you'll be sticking with them through the game. I'd start out with decent marksmanship and leadership, high wisdom, some explosives for early game grenade use, and average amount in all stats except the one that suits your playstyle most, agility and dexterity being safest bets.
I raised imp str by 1 and it reduced set up by 1. she has heavy weapons
IMP str 84 = 4 Set up, 2 Rotate, 1AP pack up
from
IMP str 83 = 5 Set up, 2 Rotate, 1AP pack up
so 1 point less than barry on set up. same strength as my barry
