Trigger for refugee camp event
So, I did some testing and I am almost certain that the trigger is you entering the sector A8 that launches a sequence of events you cannot undo or retreat from that sector.

Tip: there will be a death squad sent to eliminate Biff right after he sends radio transmission. Just intercept that team and after that you can prolong the refugee camp events till forever. Biff will remain alive and you can do whatever you need on the map in the meantime

By the time the event triggers, you've either been sidequesting way much or you've intentionally beelined to Biff and need to deal with that, and it's no different than beelining for some other mid or late game location.

There's multiple red flags provided throughout the early game about Corazon and Adonis. Not detecting these and not fielding a well-rounded squad with multiple offensive and defensive measures by then is a user issue.

I call this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I also like to sidequest a lot and when finally got to Biff was pretty surprised of the so many waves and stupid mortar.. and then the military event..

Very bad design, mortal events without a fair warning.. :bulbno:

(PS: i play on GOG)

It's a video game. Games present players with challenges. Sometimes the challenge is unpredictable.

Not this kind of unfair and unexpected crap..
Are you working for Haemimont or are paid by the publisher by any chance.. ? :happyfrog:

On my speedrun the crap hit the fan when I beat the Major, after that army took over all the map, I was blamed for the massacre at refugee camp (while never being there) and got the other 2 endgame objectives.

Probably bugs, but I wonder, did you still have to help Chimurenga town after?

Myself I think I got only 3 waves, not 4. Ok perhaps I lost the count but doubt it. Still see no reason for having 3 waves instead of 4 appart than being bored and I didn't wanted a 4rth wave. :-)

EDIT:
Among the bugs, first time in Landsbach there was zero guards for the club, no fist combats either, and still got the jeton. I wasn't stuck because I had another way to progress but still hardly not a bug. At second play no problem.
Landsbach is another one I don't get, how do the fistfighting even works? Every time I tried the fight would just abruptly ended without the game even telling me who won.
And I found the diesel in an outpost, but it opened no new dialog options with the quest giver, what else do I need to do?
For the combats it's not totally clean I agree, it's because for normal combats they end before the kill when there's still some HP left for the enemy, and right there should be a vocal comment on the winner.

If your merc has more HP he won. No bug here, just some polishing missing that would help.

It's more clear for the combat against the champion if you accepted use the combat to kill him.

I wonder if either doing Port cacao quests, going to Chalet de la Paix or doing the outbreak quest could also be a trigger, because on my first playthough i did that before ever going to refugee camp, and when i went there the event triggered as soon as i opened the map (couldn't do any quest)

Hitting the neck causes suffocation (+30 damage at the end of turn), it's probably what you missed

No, but controlling 12 city sectors or 70 total sectors is amongst the actual triggers so you can get the event while questing around

Ok thx

So it's a coincidence that i had the quest exactly at the time i entered the camp for the first time ?

when radio call comes to go to the camp are you obliged to go or can you roam around the map? that would help in delaying the tough events that happen after

You can still proceed as you see fit, but I'm not sure what things will change if you rescue the President without having obliged Corazon's request to visit the camp.

When Biff calls, a timer starts (which stops if you ambush the attackers before they reach him.) When Corazon calls, as far as I know you can delay that for a very, very long time. (But it seems eventually the events will trigger anyway, so you're better off not ignoring it completely.)

But I still suggest just going along with the game. Train militia, and pick a key spot (or 2) to defend. Then reclaim any lost ports and mines, after that take as long as you need to re-take your sectors with the much better gear you'll have from the army.

the main plot promotion trigger is that you being framed war criminals… if you manage to save refugees, then the next day the streets of Grand Chien would be filled with live eye witnesses… once a conspiracy of such magnitude gone public, it will then be called by the press for the best ‘a wretched political scandal’ or worse ‘a flagrant anti human crime’… by the book of the international law, the next troops that show up in these scums face would be of UN peacekeeping forces… that’d surely be the end of the game right away…LOL

I went to the refugee camp with 3 mercs of my ~12, mostly cheap ones and they were dead in no time. I decided no to load and to roleplay being angry and sad, all that vengeance thing. So I took others and went to the fort whatever, south-east, hoping to kill some military. I was surprised to find them just chilling there with the colonel ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, So I went in and stabbed him. Countrary to what expected all the army soldiers joined my side, shooting the colonel again and again. He won't die though, he would just restore his health again and again. So I left them to shoot each other indefinitely and went back to the refuge camp, right when there was a group of legion dudes passing through, so I joined the fun and managed to eventually clear everyone with almost no HP loss.
