Squad control
When controlling the whole squad, and you are trying to interact with "something", example a pc. The one with the highest skill+right equipment should be the one used. Not always the first member of the squad.

Go to Map view => Commands (Bottom left) => Manage Squads. there you can drag your Mercs around. If a Squad is empty, it gets removed.
