I actually like the game design as it is, but someone will surely create a mod with AI upscaled mercenary portraits using images from JA 2. Should be trivial to add JA 2 sound files as well. There are already two mods in the workshop, one implementing chance to hit and another one showing how to add custom weapons.

Can't see an easy way to do it looks like some file types might need to be unpacked and repacked unless someone can get the game to pickup a custom portrait folder location

They need to fire half of the art team for this game. These mercs look like fortnite skins with a hipster flair.

Since there's no easy way to insert custom profiles for your IMP Merc - especially with Killswitch's findings of having to unpack game files - a mod that would allow us to replace the chosen default profile image with a custom one in our current playthrough would be very useful down the line. At least this way, people can continue their current playthrough without being stuck with their default profile image even if mod packs for a larger selection of profile images were to be available later.

I don't think they are bad, just that none of them fit my vision of my character at all, not even close. We simply need more to choose from.

Modding Tools will come after release, https://community.jaggedalliance.com/index/dev-diaries/devdiary-13-co-op-mode-mod-support-r18/ will probably be easy to change them by then and we will have thousands of new mercenaries packs

to unextract use "hpk" from github, then make a batch and put in:
