What's this A.I.M gold subscription

So the legendary characters are behind something called a.i.m Gold, anyone know what it is?

After progressing a bit, you can pay 20k to unlock hiring the best mercs

Based on the only article I could find that vaguely describes it, it's an in-game payment of 20K of the in-game currency just to get access to the legendary-tier mercs like Gus, and then you still pay those mercs' fees after hiring them. It sounds like both a method to keep people from buying a single legend and soloing the game with them and a playful jab at the modern gaming market forcing insane payments to get the privilege to pay again.

Kudos to the game devs for hating on LSG game model, and sticking up for the players. Don't know how the game devs are able to walk around, they got bigger kahunas than other game devs. They also spoke out live on air in dev stream to say: "No microtransactions" in the game.

While I appreciate companies making sure there's no micro transactions in their games, I don't blindly celebrate them for meeting the lowest of low bars. NOT being needlessly greedy and ruining the experience of players should be expected, not some rarity to be cheered.

In ja 2 it was only a question of money in ja 1 you can´t hire all mercs from beginning.

Similar to M.E.R.C. in ja 2. But you're right, A.I.M mercs are all available (if not currently assigned to a different job)

Regarding the 20k for the Gold subscription:

One of the tests I read wrote, that you unlock that subscription for free after a certain time/hiring a certain amount of mercs. You only need to pay 20k if you don't want to wait.

That 20k will be a problem for me for sure, in JA 2 i never had enough money, i mostly instantly hired more mercs when i had the money. I liked it too much to travel around the map with multiple squads or if i thought there will be a really tough fight i attacked the sector from different sides at the same time.

Collecting 20k first could be really hard.

You mean the same amount? I don´t, but i don´t think that will matter, at the point i get my first regular income i maybe will see if there is something useful to buy anywhere at that point, and then i will spend that income on more mercs.

Of course, if we would get 100k from the first mine i maybe would think about spending the 20k, but we won´t get even close to that amounts, that would be too easy, and easy won´t be JA. ;)

So I got the email to purchase AIM Gold and didn't want to spend the money so I declined. Do you ever get another chance or do you just have to wait until they give it to you for free?

Just had the same offer pop up for the first time and can confirm that you don't need to buy it right away.

Anytime you try to contact a Gold Tier Merc afterwards, the game offers you the Subscription again.

It's DEFINITELY not worth paying 20k Dollars before you get your economy going with a few mines, you need to careful manage your cash until you get to that point (especially on the starting island).

When I got the offer to make the payment, I had 45k in my account.
