Ian Currie said that she was a very hated character by many US players because of her accent or behaviour or whatever. :(
I told them during the live stream that she is actually one of the top wanted characters in the list of characters on the steam topic along with others and they both laughed saying it is so crazy cause no matter how they are do it there will always be split opinions but back to the day most people disliked her and that was one of the reasons they left her back in Arulco and they don't plan on adding her in JA anymore. :(
There is a chance someone is gonna mod the sci-fi elements back in I guess.
We did see a glimps of some MERC-elements in JA 3, but only for I think a couple seconds in one of the trailers, so I would expect it more being along the lines of a side quest or easter egg, rather than a full 2nd web page to hire people from. Maybe finding a couple of them in-game and being able to hire them like Ira, Miguel etc. in JA 2 ????? Looks like they wanna keep that a secret for us to find out after launch, how exactly they will fit in.
I doubt Ira, Miguel etc. will be back in this one, since they were there because of the specific storyline of JA2. So unless one of them decided to get an Ice Cream Truck in Grand Chien (mod?? wink wink :D), we won't see them again.
In terms of transport, it looks like we're only gonna be able to hire boats from specific harbours to get across water (akin to the helicopter in JA 2, just get in at a harbour, get out where ever you wanna go), so sadly no vehicles to use ourselves.
It would be nice to see some of that in the future or some of the other stuff you mentioned, but looks like it won't be in this game, unless the game is successful enough for them to make something like a big expansion that adds lots of features or unless modders are gonna add it in (which is always a possibility with the great modding community of this series).
but aside from that, yes maybe 1 or 2 crossbows would be cool, good idea for DLC, you can also have some stun guns that probably wouldn't work against armored opponents, or would be difficult to pull off as you'd have to run up close.
I don't think that's the only thing JA3's missing however, I reckon JA3's been heavily modified to be like XCOM, both from a perspective of how short distance each engagement is, to how there's a few smaller engagements per enemy group instead of one big engagement, which is not the worst thing but nevertheless, and there's also these dumb special abilities everybody has that I think takes away from the strategic aspects of JA3.
Sorry to plug another game over here, but is this the JA2 XCOM 1.13 clone with Sci-Fi that some people desperately crave for?
no
I don't see the point of bringing Ira in JA3...
She is an environmentalist and human aid worker, who took up a gun, when things became unbearable in Arulco.
She is not and never was a mercenary. Why would she leave her chosen home country and go to Grand Chien?
Also she doesn't have the skill to survive in the field. She was more of a liability than an asset. All I ever used her for was as medical assisten and liaison / training.
Yes, just like you and everyone else, many of us originally thought she wasn't very useful. Then, someone said you could train her to be a marksman. So great, another excuse to replay JA2. I think the people who trained Ira, this was a horrible but fun exercise, but the payoff was this satisfying sense of achievement. This memory of Ira is still fresh on our minds.

You could distribute skill points for your avatar and then start over. The skill point pool would be reset but the changed stats would not.
Essentially your avatar would start with all skills and attributes at 85. It just took an hour to go through the process. Only to get the test results 3 days later and find out you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and needed to start over )
who would ever want to do that?
but it was "the best thing...." bruh
