Can you go to metal island without paying for a ride.

I noticed some side quests of mine required I go to the island, but the ride to go there is 300 berries. At any point in the game do you go there for free or is the only way paying all those berries? Also If you have to pay berries can you use the boat for free without paying 300 again?

There's a quest (it's tied to a certain card game) connected to Metal Island that gives you a discount on the ride. I don't know how much of a discount though since I paid the 300 on my play through. Once you pay the 300 or the discount you won't really have to pay again, but it's for a different reason.

Actually you can get to Metal Island completely for free, but you have to wait for Chapter 6 when you get access to a submarine. Then you can just ride that to Metal Island instead of the captain's boat.

Oh, if you complete the Spy Cards quest with the Card Masters, it costs 90 and you can get a lot of berries by winning the card tournament.
