I still barely get to finish ONE LAP without crashing.
So my answer to you is...: It is really so hard. I also use a Steam controller.
I thought i was the only one, but when you say you have more than 270 hours spent and still crashing, i am reassured...:)
I will try and learn more and more... Its a really cool game. :)
After much practice on TT2 I have managed to learn the tracks/circuits and now I can play based on my learned experience without having to worry about corners.
The stupidly bad thing is that the horrible whooshing sound of the wind cannot be turned off no matter the option in the menu. It just doesn't work
Way better that TT1 in my opinion
The name of the game is "ride on the edge" and it is designed to be played as such, so yes falling on the TT course happens more than id like, having said that there are people that can lap the TT course without falling off.
The best player i ever saw on the TT course was a guy on the xbox, he looked like the real racers doing a lap, and no he didn't fall off.
Same with the other sims you play, its all about practice.
Of course it's a matter of practice to get better
I've yet to get around the TT circuit without crashing so that is my challenge currently and for quite a while I suspect :-)
You can also split the tt course into sections, i find it best to go the sections one at a time to get a good feel for the TT, my times on the TT arent brilliant tbh but that's because i havent put much time into it.
A week or so I bought the Ducati 900 - Mike Hailwood 1978 DLC and using it this evening I found it enjoyable using it on Snaefell as the bike is practically slower than other bikes so actually allowed me to take the course at a slower pace and assisted me in learning the course too

I use an Xbox controller on tt too.
You want the bike setup so that it leans in quite fast but sits up "fairly slow", sitting the bike up too quickly will cause an imbalance and can make you fall off, same for fast turns say left to right, if you try to do this as fast as you can you will end up falling quite a lot through the imbalance caused by trying to throw the bike too quickly.
Try to edit your lean settings so it sits up nice and smooth, i use -6 both left and right and that seems to be the sweet spot for me, but i normally ride the 600's.
I also use all the assists on medium settings and it hasn't slowed me down, top 10 in all but 1 of the supersport British tracks.
