Someone said only place you have time to rip tear off away is just after Ramsey hairpin. :D Bug density should be connected to weather, windy -> no insects. But irl they are a real problem too, look at riders and bikes on pit after two laps, they don´t change visor for no reason.
The first classic bike has a fantastic helmet cam (go figure why *only* this bike. tip: height challenged rider?), but it also emphasises the issue of (once again) blockier than chessboard pixelated ascii art bug decals.
Maybe not too many insects, but way to quick this many insects.
And a tear off is badly needed, to begin the second lap somewhat "civilised" ...
(or to save the tear off for the trickier sectors in the second lap)
What makes it even more challenging is there is too much white/milk in the windscreen that makes it hard to see through. (windscreens were better in 1 imho). The helmet visor is too restrictive and fades the view far too much (I also do not get why they faded the sides more), that is not how it looks in a real helmet. Then throw in all the splats on both, and a section where you are in the light heading into shadow and you can hardly see a damn thing.
I really wish we could have tear strips, have the choice of visor color (eg yellow which can help sharpen the view) and tint, and that they would clean up the bike windscreens so they actually look like glass again (hint glass is clear to slightly dark, even in sunlight).
I saw a video of Peter Hickman where one of his mechanics pulled the tear off from his visor at a pit stop.
I thought they would change the visor during the pit stops with new tear offs prepared on this new visor, but apparently that is not how they are doing it.
Thank you
They change the visor if needed. Changing visor is always a risk because it can go wrong and take extra time at pit or in worst case go off in +195 mph speed. Sometimes there are more flies and rider runs out of tear offs you have to change visor, sometimes ie. windy conditions there are lesser flies and there is no need to change visor in pitstop. In six lap races it´s more likely you have to change it after four laps anyway. But yes, they use tear offs, but there is not many places they have time to rip it off.
It was btw. this video I was talking about.
It is worth watching, just for the coolness of Peter Hickman. :D
