Get a good start?
Does anyone have any tips from the start off? I cant catch the revs right and always get left for dust.

I'd like to 2nd that question as I have the same problem. It seems that no matter at what rpm I hold the throttle, whether I shift to first before or kick into gear at the green light, I always get burnt from the line.

I had exactly the same problem until I upgraded the gearbox so you can change the ratios. What I do is alter 1st 2nd and third gear ratios so that you accelerate much quicker, then depending on the track alter the final drive ratio to suit the track---long flowing tracks you would want a longer ratio so more top speed-----short tracks with lots of turns you would want a short ratio so more acceleration but less top speed. I only play single player career mode so when I choose a track on the career calendar that I dont know I quit the career mode and load that track in time trial and practice and adjust gear ratios suspension settings till I am happy and then go back to career mode and race that track. There should be in career mode the opportunity to practice and change setups before the actual race

1 in 20 times at mid+ throttle, with minimal wheelspin (imaginary in this game), you can hold the front row. But tbh the game is better if you start at the back.

Cheers for the answer guys.

@Doug: Changing the ratios is good advice, thank you. And I agree that there should be practice in career mode. I will take your advice and fiddle w/ the gear ratios a little bit, especially for the hard races.

@Xammond: The "imaginary" wheelspin is one of my main complaints too. If there was noticeable and interpretable feedback from wheelspin, it would be way easier to find the sweet spot. Unfortunately, grip is not really implemented in this game anyway. You only have this short "burnout" animation at the start that seems to be fixed (if it happens). In Milestone games you can slide the rear tyre in braking zones and you can spin it from every corner. There is clear and distinct visual, acoustic and haptic (controller rumble) feedback when it happens.

Anyway, that's not too say I'm not happy w/ that game overall. It's good at what it's aimed at. A great arcade-ish simulation of road racing that offers the greatest sense of speed I witnessed in a game. And despite being arcade-ish, it's really hard.
Therefore you might be right Xammond: the game is probably more fun anyway if you lose that positions at the start.

It's possible but hard to take a good start. Rev up, then let rpm fall, engage gear and apply throttle, that is the way to take a good start like slipping the clutch like in real life. Of course when you get better gearbox you can keep your 1st place with just keeping revs up and just engaging gear.
