Solo play worth it?
Is the ability to play against AI available even past the first two free missions? I like Memoir '44, but am a loner, and prefer AI. Is this primarily for multiplayer, or can I get a satisfying experience in solo play as well?

Actually, I got an answer to my question (yes), so never mind. Thanks.

Yes, but it uses up gold ingots. Even just playing against AI. That's why I refuse to play this game. Terrible nickel and diming.

Actually the robot players are both fairly predictable, as their primary strategy is almost always to attack without letting up, whether that would seem smart or not. And it is usually pretty easy to get a human opponent. If you choose a game to play when there are 20 or more players on, most of the time someone will pick-up the game as your opponent. a lot of them are French speaking and do not really care if you chat or not. And then the game is far more challenging.

Fair enough. I will give the humans a try. The thing that limits me is that I usually play at work, and I play a few turns, then have to divert efforts to... gasp... work :)... and then back forth, so my plays against the AI could last hours of intermittent play.

I'm quite positive humans would *not* appreciate that. BUt you're right, I could block out a time on a weekend someday and give it a whirl. Give y'all some fodder. he he.

Thanks.

Actually, I suspect you might have difficulty completing games that are stretched out so long. Does that really work? I know if you are against another person the "bot" takes over if you don't do anything for like 5 minutes. But maybe resume game works really long??? good luck. and be careful, we find this really grows on you. Serious addiction is possible. There are some fairly lengthy youtube segments on this game. it's really different as a boardgame, I have yet to find a local opponent though.

And the games in other theaters of the war are sometimes much much different too!!!

Heya. Yeah, for some reason, playing against the bots, there doesn't seem to be an idle timeout, which is GREAT for me, because I just play it throughout the day sporadically and it literally could take hours.

But I still want to play against humans, just when I can block out time. I've been very much addicted to the board game for many years, and with the board game friends fading away these days, the online avenue (once I can be get a block of undisturbed and focus time to play against them) will really fill that gap. :)

Thanks for the comments!

You are most welcome. Maybe we'll be able to catch a game sometime.

Just another quick thought. A friend of mine got into a game this weekend online w/ a player who had not played for like 6 months; and they took 2 to 3 minutes to play each turn. Very few online players will be happy going that slow. Playing the 'bot allows for SLOW more than real people do. Good luck.

I have been playing solo frequently because of limits on available time. Love the no penalty pause it allows. Sometimes have interruptions lasting well over half an hour and the "BOT DOES NOT MIND!" Not a good idea to go away 'til the BOT has finished his turn. No way to go back and see what just happened. LOL!!!
