Why do i get worn tires in my first pit stop?
Yesterday, I had a 50% race in Hanoi with My team mode. I used a balanced tyre allocation, So for qualifying that means in total 4 sets of soft tyres. I am 100% sure that I only used 3 soft tyres in total(1 set for each session, Q1,Q2 and Q3). Now here is the thing: I know that I have to start on the tyre that I used in Q2, So no problem there. But when I made a pit stop to put on a new set of softs I was given worn tires, even though there was still an unused set from Q3. Is this a bug? Or can anyone explain why this happens? Thanks in advance!

Did you use the first 3 soft tyres in your allocation? Because the one soft set to the right (the one which is greyed out in Q1 and Q2) will be given back after Qualifying, if you participated in Q3. It doesn't matter, if you used it or not, it's always this specific set, so saving it doesn't make any sense. You've to save one of the other tyres to take them into the race.
This. You have to make sure to use that specific set of Q3 softs in Q3 because you don't have acces to it in the race. If you don't make it into Q3 you do get to use it in the race.

Thanks! That must have been the issue then, pretty weird that this isn't explained anywhere in the game(or is it?) especially because it can have quite the impact in the race. Buy anyway thanks for the answer!

I'm pretty sure it's not explained. It took a long time before I figured it out.

I think the trick here is your usage during practice. Because by default, when you do a practice programme, they will always attach brand new tyres for you. So when you run a practice programme, make sure you change the tyres to the used one instead of the new.

So This is what I always do to keep my tyre allocations fresh: I used Balanced Allocation

FP1:
Track Acclimatisation = Hard (1)
Tyre Management = Medium (1)
ERS Management = Medium (1)
Fuel Management = Medium (1)
Total Tyres used = 2, Total Tyres returned = 2 used.

FP2:
Race Simulation = Medium (2)
Total Tyres used = 1, Total tyres returned = 1 used, 1 new.

FP3:
Qualifying Simulation = Soft (1)
Total Tyres used = 1, Total tyres returned = 1 used, 1 new.

Q1: Soft (2)
Total Tyres used = 1, new tyres remaining = 1 Medium, 3 Softs.

Q2: Medium (3)
Total Tyres used = 1, new tyres remaining = 3 Softs.

Q3: Soft (3)
Total Tyres used = 1, new tyres remaining = 2 Softs.

Race: Start on used Medium (3).
Total remaining new tyres: 1 Hard (reserved), 1 Medium (reserved), 2 Softs (unused from Qualifying)

This way, I always have a set of fresh new tyres for whenever I pit, plus and extra set of soft tyres, for me to pit at the second to last lap for me to catch that Fastest Lap at the checkquered flag.

The game has a tutorial section, but there are only some basic explanation of some game mechanics and less about actual F1 rulings. It seems like they expect you to be a F1 fan and therefore know such rulings.

Jeff tells you, that 2 tyres are given back after a practice session though, so i doesn't really understand, why he doesn't explain the even more important rule for Q3-tyre usage.

I'm having an issue with the new 1.08 patch.

As you all know the patch introduce us the label on the next tyres on the MFD, either it's New or Used.

In my previous post. I made sure that I have 2 fresh set of new soft tyres during the race. One used for the first pit stop, and another new set that I can put on at the end of the race for the fastest lap.

But for some reason, the game put me in my Used tyres instead of the new for the second stop.
I still get my fastest lap of course, because that used soft tyre is only 1 lap old that I used for Qualifying. But the problem is, why is it giving me that used soft while I still have 1 new set available?

Did you make sure, that you saved 2 soft tyres of the first 3 sets and not the Q3-set?

That's right, I saved 1 soft tyre from Q1, and 1 soft tyre from Q2. For Q3, I speficially changed my set to use the one from the Q3 slot.

So my new Soft tyres are saved from Q1 and Q2 slots.
