Ridiculous FFB
Hi,

I've been playing F1 games since F1 2012, i'm a hard sim racing player (rf2, iracing, AC & ACC). The FFB in F1 games have always been a bit strange and light but this year this is just ridiculous.

You can tweak anything you want to, you can try to understand how it works and how you can find the information you need but all you can get is useless shiny effects likes kerbs, bumps on track, grass & dirt whan you run off. You can also feel the lateral grip if you set the tire damper to 50 or more but never ever you'll get the longitudinal grip information in this game. The rear tires just spins with no reason randomly with an even throttle usage, you know (and not feel) you are going to lose the car so you up shift and the torque still the same even with ERS deployement set to level 1. Sometimes the torque is even greater than the lower speed with lower revs and you lose the rear. The FFB in fast corners when you got the grip and the FFB when you lose the car is exactly the same but when you feel you lost it it's way way too late you can never ever react to.

Even worse, you can set the tire damper to high value for a bit more information in the wheel but the car will just feel like a big big truck and lateral grip information don't tell you that you are going to lose the rear end of the car, it should because the car would want to go in another way you try to point it into so, even with power steering,

In other F1 games the FFB was not that light and you was able to feels the rear weels spin and as I see more and more topics about the game being more difficult for gamepad confirms to me that feel is very very poor and the handling of the cars too. The change between mechanical and aerodynamic grip is just like a switch on/off button, the game force you to expect what the car is going to do instead of feel and be able to react to it. I don't even say anything about the restrict ERS modes we are able to use in different sessions and others weird things.

I don't expect nothing to be improved from upcoming patches and will not turn on aids because the game is made harder on purpose without any logic behind this. I do love hard sim race games but this is not hard it's random. I just want to know if i am the only one getting so much frustrated with this one and share what we could do to improve it.

Cheers

Never played a F1 game before (and just played some ~120 laps in this, in one gaming session), but I have all others sims you mention. My only issue is with throttle application: I have to set it quite exponential (linearity 50) and be quite slow in the first 4 gears or I'll spin (no assists).

The FFB isn't Rf2, but I've found it consistent/predictable/communicative with minor (random in fact lol, just lowered canned effects and rose damping) adjustments to the sliders... using a T500RS with F1 rim here. Also using the setting that increases loss of grip feel (forgot the name).

Don't saying that you're wrong in your assessment, but have you tried it with traction assists to check if your issues isn't just mine (wheel spin due to "excessive" throttle)? The AI looks like they drive with traction control for me...

Also, something that I'm quite curious is if you're playing "My Team"? Maybe it is an artificial difficulty due to non-researched car? I didn't play yet in multi or other "fully-researched" modes.

Apart from feeling worse it's the same game as last year. I agree mika its quite unpredictable and weird. Turns in strange aswell sometimes just does't want to turn in on tight turns.
But has been said by the esports drivers, you have to learn how to drive it in a unique way. Ive not played much yet but last years was better i think so far.

19 was big step up from others and was a good game but this just seems a copy and paste job with worse handling.

5 bucks says its a reversed value in a ffb setting they messed up ...again.

I have the same problem. Turned it to 150 and it feels like nothing. I have no control over the car.

same problem here. I have been using my tgt for dirt rally and project cars. F1 2020 is a trully nice game, but it might not be designed for the wheel users. also, does anyone know if there there is no weight transfer in the real life for Formula cars. I just cant feel the road or tyres with the ffb.

I tried several cars in hotlap sessions especially on new circuits as I used to do with new F1 games to aclimate myself and I started "My Team" to try too before posting this.

I mean you don't never hundred of laps to understand something is wrong. The torque curve is really really strange but you can't even feel a simple oversteer so this not related to the throttle for me. Sometimes you understeer for the same no reason you, sometimes, oversteer. It feels like you drive the most horrible F1 car possible: understeer in entry and oversteer in exit of corners with random handling inside the corners. You feel the front lateral grip if you increase Tire Damper, and this feels good, but you drive a truck. It feels like the rear of the car is not connected to the wheel. The same with a Mercedes or a Myteam car, the Merc one is just faster in straights and corners so laptimes comes down but handling the same.

Didn't tried linearity so maybe it helps. Also my wheel is a G29 but with other games or the 2019 one I don't have to complain.

But i've seen other topics too and with you I'm not alone.

I have a t300 and it seems like I have a lot more connection to the road this year compared to last year. I can feel the downforce and when I lose the back end. 99.9% of my spins come from giving it too much throttle in lower gears too fast.

FFB fine here, i use a thrustmaster TGT, its not bad, in fact i think the FFB is better than assetto corsa competizione, i can feel more of the road, when the fronts completely lose grip etc. AC comp in comparison is quite a bit weaker, still fairly detailed but less direct feedback for sure.

when i see people saying they cant feel the road im like what the hell are you on about i can feel every bump, the steering gets heavier under load etc, it just must be how people have it set up, i have my gain in the thrustmaster software to 100 percent and then i adjust the gain in game to my liking.

My ingame settings are 85,30,30,20,15 and understeer enhance off. try it.

I use this mod F1 2020 Ultra grip & car stability from Racedepartment and set saturation to 35 and FFB to 20,15,25,20,18 and run ABS off and TC on high with a G27 which improved it for me.

stop whining and buy a decent wheel.. (IE. no thrustmaster nor Logitech) ;)

Not in the same league as rf2 or AMS2 but for me on simucube v2 it's ok. I feel loss of grip front and rear, and bite as you excelerate. Could do with more tyre scrub and track surface effects.

I have a t150 and FFB works with every other game that I've tried don't know what the problem is with this one.
