Practise programs too hard
Does anybody else think the practise programs are too hard? I had a target for qualifying to achieve a 1:22:8 around melbourne at difficulty 100. Getting that laptime would've got me 2nd place in the session, in a car which should be around the back. I don't think those times are right

Certainly the qualifying programs are completely over the top, but then I remember the same issue in the last game. I set the fastest lap in the session and it still wasn't fast enough.

The problem with F1 2020's practice programs, especially in the My Team mode is that your team is suppose to start as a backmarker and to also compete sometimes in the Midfield. However, the programs are somewhat forcing you to compete with the front of the field and match their practice times. Which adds further difficulty to the programs being harder because you have a crappy car that can't turn corners as well but you also need to be fast to even match the delta pace.

It's just weird codemasters managed to figure this out in 2019. Provided you played on your appropriate difficulty the race pace and at least the green quali time were definitely doable with every car because the target times were always in line with car performance.

Yeah, 2019 was at least somewhat doable with EVERY car even with the realistic performance setting. If you chose Alfa Romeo, your quali and practice times were set similar to the Midfield's real life Alfa Romeo and didn't force you to compete with Mercedes with the delta pace.

The most annoying thing with F1 2020's practice sessions is the fact that they have somehow made it hella harder to do the Fuel & Tyre Management Programs. Even though this was decent enough in 2019 for everyone to be able to do. I used to be able to go in the purple for all practice sessions and I use a PS4 controller, the only assist I have on is the automatic gearbox.

However, in 2020 this has changed significantly. The practice programs are nigh either undoable or you need to restart them a few times to even get in the green. This is evident in the track acclimatization program where you now have to get your car in the FULL BOX to even get purple, if your car is even a centimeter away from it. Then you get a green and that's horrendous.

If you're having trouble with achieving the goals at 100 difficulty. Maybe reduce the difficulty, there's nothing wrong with that. I think codemasters improve the AI aggresiveness and pace in this game, so the same difficulty level might be harder than last year's game.

I like difficulty 60. Its a nice balance of challenge for my skills.

The problem is the disconnect between the race pace and qualifying programs and the actual qualifying and race performance. I barely managed to complete race pace and qualifying programs on 80 difficulty, qualified P15 on that difficulty and after upping the difficulty to 85 I still outperformed my car significantly with a P11. So obviously I should increase the difficulty even higher.

In the 2019 game the race pace and qualifying programs would actually give you a decent idea of how you compared to the AI on that specific difficulty.

I'm having the same issue with my team on 65 difficulty. The programs wanted a 1:30 but my car was a 1:31 car at best in Australia. My qualifying time of 1:30 put me in 19th but failed all my programs. Yet in the race was able to get to 16th to finish.

In Team Mode I'm finding the Fuel Management Programs are impossible to complete for me. I guess it might also because I use auto gears as can't do manual shifting, so am not able to run in higher gears in corners. Doesn't matter how much lifting and coasting I try to do, I can't get the marker out of the red section into the green or purple section and be anywhere near the lap time they also want me to achieve.

That's the entire problem. It would be fine if it was just my difficulty being too high, but in general I'm faster than my teammate, so I don't think I should lower the difficulty. The programs are just too hard

Maybe drop down the difficulty during practice, and then raise it back up for qualifying and race?

That is the solution for now but at the very least the race pace and qualifying programs are basically meant to see if you are fast enough for your selected difficulty. But for now there seems to be a 15-20 points difference between the two.

It's exceedingly dumb, having to fiddle with difficulty settings between sessions, but that's the only thing you can do to at least green in the programs.

I've seen a few instances of the expected time in the quali sim being faster than the current real life lap record on that track. I don't know what it scales with, but it's so far out of whack it's not even funny anymore.

Hell, I'd even be fine with it if it was consistent with the performance and throughout the whole weekend. I keep failing the quali PP by a wide margin (because I can't be assed ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the difficulty for every session anymore) and yet i consistently outperform my car (and my teammate) in the actual quali...that just makes no sense.

Fiddling with difficulty just to pass the programs is just "gaming", when these things should be there to give you a general idea of your pace, the validity of your setups and where there's room for improvement.

I have the third-worst car on paper, consistently fail the quali sim, so I should be dead last....nevermind it's P11.
