The game has not been marketed yet, that will be on full release, so it still is early for inviting those who come for other players only. It's the right time for those who like the game by itself. It's explorable, and masterable, and there are players visiting servers. It is also a nice time for bug hunts — finding and reporting bugs and problems may help improve experience tremendously, and for everyone.
Personally, I found joining regardless of player counts a choice that paid off. Sure, there are some perceived issues that better have solutions to them, but both complete and day-to-day experience is still positive. So much so, it expanded beyond the game itself, in fact, maybe worth expanding on someday.
The mainstay of this game isnt killing other players, its the scale combat, the AI itself is VERY capable and you can still lose battles against them while playing solo.
its of course more fun with friends.
SIngle player/Private hosting update being worked on, and mod support will come after.
We loved having a bomber squad being backed up by the smaller repair gunships; the repair gunships would hold a position and keep it safe from fighters/interceptors, and we'd follow our bombers in as they did strikes on the destroyers/capital ships.
