Suggestion: How you should earn money in this game
In the balance thread I mentioned already that earning money in this game feels wrong. Destroying a destroyer in a cruiser should not give you the same amount of credits as you would get by destroying a destroyer in an interceptor.
The actual way you earn money for kills will always lead to picking the ship with the most firepower and armor --> Cruisers all the way.

Suggestion 1:
Make tables for each ship class it gets for destroying another ship class (just an example for 3 classes):

Interceptor killing
Interceptor : 4 credits
Bomber: 6 credits
Corvette: 8 credits
Destroyer: 500 credits
Cruiser: 1000 credits

Bomber killing
Interceptor : 4 credits
Bomber: 5 credits
Corvette: 6 credits
Destroyer: 50 credits
Cruiser: 150 credits

Cruiser killing
Interceptor : 5 credits
Bomber: 8 credits
Corvette: 10 credits
Destroyer: 40 credits
Cruiser: 100 credits

As you see, killing the smaller ships will get you about the same amount of cash with each ship class, but destroying a big guy will give you a lot less money if you are in a big ship as well.

Suggestion 2:

Improve strategic layer to be more important for eaning money.

Another aspect I havent mentioned is the way that it feels that you earn way more money by killing enemy ships than by doing mission important stuff or by destroying enemy haulers.
it also should be written somewhere how much money you get for specific things. It is also very hidden how important team credits are. When you kill a hauler, how important is that? How can you improve your team credits rate?

On the map there should be shown for example "Starbase Odyssey: 100 team credits every minute" or so. Haulers should be a very important money source, so it should motivate players to hunt them. Right now, people are completely ignoring them because making money in direct combat is too easy and fast. Also there should be some bases that give more money to the team because than other bases. Maybe these would have just a few spawn points and have only weak defenses and are more on the outer rings of the map.

Right now, it feels completely random what target you attack because money comes mainly from the kills and you will have more than enough to fly cruisers only in late game. This is maybe the biggest issue the game has right now because it ruins the strategic layer this game could offer.

I think that a large amount of the issues we have with currency in the game is due to the lack of credit sinks currently implemented. The devs have stated on multiple occasions that they are addressing this, so we should wait and see what the changes are there first... Although I do like your ideas.

This will not change the fact that it is way (and I mean 10 times more) easier to farm money in a cruiser than in a crovette for example. This should not be so drastically. Try making 1000 credits with kills in an interceptor and then do the same with a cruiser. Sure a cruiser is more expensive and needs to gain money a bit faster, but not so much.

You answered yourself of why you're wrong.

Nobody is going to want to play a cruiser, carrier, or any large ship if they are getting punished for it by having a severely crippled income and no chance of sustaining the ship credit wise.
