With that said I just started 3 after playing 2 and there are some mechanics in 3 I'm not a fan of. In 2 you could parry while moving which meant you could parry through environmental hazards. This felt great to pull off and also allowed you to build up combo throughout a stage in preparation for an end stage boss. In 3 your parry stops you in place meaning this mechanic no longer works.
Also 3 has a dash which allows you to dash through coins but it's mapped to the same button as the homing attack so it ends up being a bit buggy and unpredictable.
I would get both on a sale since they are both great games and I think the mechanical differences between them make them both worth playing.
A benefit of 2 is the exclusive transformations that 3 doesnt have. So if you like those then 2 is still worth it.
Nope. The developer talked about the change in this video. He specifically made the parry a combat focused move and removed its role in platforming.
