Command: Modern Operations

Command: Modern Operations

Silent Service?
Is it a worthwhile dlc? Been waiting for a larger discount but might give in a buy it. I got this game for the submarine stuff basically, but there is only one (negative) review for it at the moment.

Go for it!

Go for it, the scenarios are really varied (for submarines). Only drawback is that it's mostly about the Cold War, I'd have liked more varied backgrounds.
and be sure to grab Pole Positions too, it's a submarine LIVE scenario in the modern age.

Thanks for the responses. Reckon Ill take the plunge then!
I had been looking at Pole Positions, as a side note how are the other live scenarios?

Overall the once I own and already came along playing were all quite enjoyable. The recent one Aegean in Flames became one of my new favourite Scenarios in this game. You command big forces, it has some very fun events, the OOB is very detailed, you have to know your strenghts and weaknesses well to win, use your limited ammunition effectively and there is more than one way to win.

The LIVE scenarios are "mega" scenarios, much more detailed, complex and replayable than regular scenarios. You can spend several hours on each for sure, including doing it on both sides.
Notably, the context of every scenario is extremely interesting, be sure to read the background article for each scenario available from the Launcher->Live News->Command Live Issue.

They are definitely recommended.

I made the scenarios and art assets for the The Silent Service so obviously I'm a little biased :)

The Silent Service scenarios were designed to be replayable, so there are randomised elements in each of the scenarios. Lone Wolf is one of the most heavily randomised, I'm yet to have two identical playthroughs--although there are deliberate limits on how far things can deviate from the baseline so things don't get too crazy.

There's also heaps of easter eggs, ranging from pop culture references in ship names to hidden messages in the briefing images (one example--every briefing image has a morse code message at the bottom of the briefing; there are plenty more).
Sorry for the necro but why is it not available for purchase anymore?

We have realized that the recent improvements that we have made to some aspects of the sim engine (especially the changes to the sonar model) have resulted in game-breaking effects to some of the scenarios.

We don't currently have the bandwidth to rework the scenarios as necessary, so this DLC has been withdrawn from sale for now.
(The DLC is still available for play to anyone that has already purchased it, it is not available for sale to anyone that does not have it).

We will probably revisit this in the future as we have a lot of further improvements to underwater mechanics to look forward to.

If we previously bought the DLC can we still play the scenarios?

I think yes, the withdrawal from sale does not affect the ownership status of anyone who has already purchased them.

If you are anyhow blocked/prevented from playing the DLC scenarios please let us know.

So the submarines in general in this game have been removed or are they in the base game?

I think he was just talking about the Silent Service DLC itself being removed. There are other scenarios where subs work perfectly fine rn. It's more a scenario design issue than a unit issue.

Oh, I misunderstood then. I thought the SS DLC added subs or new depth to subs (pun intended). Was it just a scenario pack?

Yes, just a scenario pack. The base game comes with all units and game mechanics. The DLCs are just scenario sets made by the devs that relate to specific theme (such as a fictional conflict set in a certain time period, a real life conflict, or specific unit or type of units).
