You really need a great deal of armor/avoidance for this battle, seeing 2 ranks at the time being active involves a ton of dmg.
Get cards with low cost, loremaster or other cards that give you other cards. Having the armor that makes you immune to one attack makes that fight a lot easier as well since all the damage is spread out.
Prince got me the first time but now I'm taking him out on turn 10.
I personally like having loremaster if you can snag it since you'll get a lot of bonus action points for you guys.
What I found humorous was on my last attempt against the prince, I killed the prince on the first turn. I found this to amusing since his traits say that he can't technically be downed after a certain health limit but I got around it. I used to red powders and then the wolf's sever ability which makes it a insta kill against anything. It didn't really change the fight that much as the prince really doesn't do anything, it's his guards that do the work. I still found it amusing though.
Other good ability to have is the mouses 'exertion' ability. This lets you take a card out of your discard pile and put it back into your hand.
I have beat him one time cheesing the + 1 acid talent every card you play with + 1 blood one same character with the card + 1 acid every new effect on, that was easy fight, but if you have bad talent or normal one, the + 1 cost is killing you and narrow even more the strategy of deck building so i totally agree with you !

added first win too screen too.
But in a card game, its normal to have good or bad luck plus with the A.I who is based on random and not a real strategy !
Oh well. Seeing your successes has me ready to go back in.
My weakness was them moving my guys around (making Bastion useless) on top of massive Hamstring damage, which killed one of my guys. I took "Blood Pact" Oath, so it ended then and there.
Maybe I could've won, because I had a massive Bloodthirsty Beaver (239 health), but now I will never know. One upside is that I got a truckload of points, so I leveled Weasel from 1 to 4 and Beaver from 1 to 7 (I got two in my party, maybe that's why).
One (and pretty big at that) downside of that fight is making Will even more of a dump stat: you are much better off putting everything (or almost everything) into Stamina.
I did that in this run on "accident", mainly because most of my cards were pretty Stamina-heavy, everyone got Superior Heavy Armor, running with 3 character and I didn't get any good cards requiring Will. However, knowing how big are the penalties to Stamina in this fight there is absolutely no reason to focus on Will, evenmoreso considering that Will is a limited resource.
Still, the game continues impressing me.
I thought I "won" the game the first time, when I defeated the Warden. Then I got new bosses on my second run (and got killed by the first one), and now - after breezing through most of the game - my campaign with the seemingly unstoppable, broken deck got stopped by the actual boss.
It kind of puts the whole "deckbuilding the most broken deck possible" into perspective.
The only issue is if you're commited to a solo run. In that case, you better have planned ahead with vigor and stamina effects and have ways to generate tons of armor.
The fact they all get to attack simultaneously or the cards cost 1 extra stamina is a bridge too far. I'd prefer one or the other.
That said, this game really lacks meaningful endgame as the variety of encounters is low.
