Only just got game and going off it quickly
Only just got the game as I fancied a wee change from Fifa or Footie Mgr,, and as I enjoyed tennis games years ago thought why not.
Having not played a tennis game in years when I got it yesterday I just played a few games on rookie and got used to the shots etc. Soon I was finding it way too easy so upped it up to amateur. Now I can barely win a game against the cpu. The ai players never miss and sometimes get to impossible shots. The thing tho thats putting me off the most is that every shot I seem to hit is constantly out. Even when I send the ai opponent completely the other way and have a huge area to just hit the ball down,, it will go long and out. It really is frustrating, and now instead of just playing fun rallys etc,, im now paying more attention to the wee shot indicator,, but even thats not reliable. I have got points when it was red, and missed or hit shots out on amber or green. Aiming seems hit or miss also,, sometimes it will go left or right where I aim,, and others it just go right down the middle.
If I went back to rookie to practise some more,, there no point as every shot at every angle on that mode is full green,, yet move one level up and its completely different.
Fairly sure the game must be up to date as I only just downloaded it yesterday. Like I said I havent played a tennis game in years, so I accept I wont be very good,, but any tips on how the hell to get the hang of the gampplay would be much appreciated.

I had a lot of trouble with amateur difficulty after rookie, but after watching one youtube video I've gained the ultimate knowledge - do not aim on the line. Even red indicator can do a win shot if not aligned with line (it's a main problem with a rookie difficulty - if you play it and have every shot as "green" it's really hard to remove this habit). After that you should remember the following: to win you can use only one type of serve (fast) and four types of hits (fast, drop shot, volley and lob).

When you have a bit of experience and understaning of opponents habits (powerful, rally, net player) you can start to mix other shots. But it's really not necessary.

UPD: just won against Nadal with described stategy on semi-pro with 6-4 / 6-3 with my skills being on 40 (speed and reflexes on 55)

(as for wee indicator - think of it as "target radius" in tennis elbow if you've played it, but here in this game, it will always miss if you put your target too close to the line without "green wee")

OP is right, this game is trash.
I bought the game yesterday and I've played a few matches in the Career mode. Your fellow "Future" players consistently play better than top 10 players on the best days.

- No unforced errors from the AI. The only way to win points is to prolong a point so that their blue bar depletes, and only then they will make an unforced error. I would accept low unforced errors if I was playing s a top 10 player - not a future 18yo candidate just like me, with 40 points in all their attributes.

- You can hit a ball with your market almost green and it will go out anyway. Every game unfolds in the same way. You will get tens of unforced errors, the AI will get 4 or 5 tops.

- AI returns every hit, no matter how badly positioned it is. If it was on the left side, it will run an impossible ball to the right, hit it, and take over the initiative because its return will still be as strong and accurate as that of a top player.

- Serves - In a similar manner, every time you serve you are a disadvantage. Because the AI will send you back a solid return almost every time.

- Every time you go 30-0 or 40-0, expect the AI to start pulling impossible to catch aces out of nowhere, or hit impossible returns. I've had players run an impossible lob and score a winner against me hitting the ball from BETWEEN HIS LEGS.

- Serving. Why would every future 15 candidate serve 170km/h serves?

I understand this would all make sense if I was playing Grand Slams against the best players, but why every future 15 match plays the same way? I used to watch real-life futures when I was a teenager, and I guarantee they don't play like this at all, lol. I would expect my opponents to commit the same number of mistakes I do, as they are all about my attributes.
I've decided to play an exhibition tournament, I picked a player with attributes in their 90s, and the game plays just the same - the only difference is players are just faster runners and return faster balls.
Makes no sense.
Just to add a couple of things: I've also had instances of my players "teleporting" a very short distance, which threw me off the timing for the shot. And i've had instance of my player not hitting the ball and letting is go past next to me when he was in clear position to hit it.

People who just bought the game and doesn't have the slighest idea how to play it calling the game trash makes me laugh.
Play the turorials several times and keep playing and you will win consistently. If you could win easily being a noob then the game would be trash.

I agree with you. Those people could be just promoters of other tennis game and want us to play their favorite tennis game other than AO Tennis 2. They are not objective on their comments.

I'm not even playing the hardest dificulties, just "pro", which is the mid difficulty, which should correlate to "normal".
Game plays the same whether you are a 40-stat 18yo player playing futures or a 90-stat seasoned top player.
Players playing futures don't play like this at all. If I want to play against a wall I would go play Arkanoid.
