Is It Worth Buying?
I currently have about 400 hours in Fishing Planet. I am level 39. However, I have been progressing slowly and have only just finished White Moose Lake. I'm at a point that I need more storage and am out of money (credits). So I need to either purchase some DLC for Fishing Planet or buy The Fisherman and start over.

Is it worth starting over or should I just pick up the Fishing Planet Anniversary Pack or Golden Pack?

Also how do you keep from running out of money to purchase equipment in The Fisherman? I don't want to buy this game and run into the same issues I am having now.

I've just answered your same question over on The Fisher lol. Well it depends on what you want. It's basically the same game plus a new waterway (a very good one), some new species and trolling. But the reason I bought it was because at the time I didn't have the time to play FP all day to use my license properly, this game is like any other fishing game, you are not restricted to 1 real day, you just pick up where you left off whenever you like. Also you level up 50% faster and only buy licenses once. There is no cost in advancing time either. Finally all the dlc that you had to pay for in FP is available for in-game currency - bait coins for catching unique's, for example I got 54 bait coins for a 42 ibs unique pike.
I find the game much more relaxing than FP with a more gentle economy. The new update for FP is coming to this game soon as dlc.

This is one of my main concerns. I have seen several reviews that say that The Fisherman is actually behind Fishing Planet in terms of content. Now you are saying that the free content update on FP is coming to TF as DLC. I don't want to buy a game that is supposed to be complete and include all the DLC just to have to buy a DLC update that is free on the F2P version.

it would take hundreds of dollars and many more hours to get the equivalent content this version offers, so i'm totally cool with waiting until the "new" wears off of the additional waters in F2P and paying for a DLC for this version, rather than keeping premium time and buying coins to get permanent license'.

You have also to consider that, while with this game you'll need to buy the new content as DLC, in the F2P version you have to spend much more time and money to actually get access to that "free" content.

I have only around 40 hours in this game and I'm already level 21 and I've been mostly fishing in waterways you unlock at level 10 max (I take things slow and relax); grinding properly I'd probably be much higher in level than what I am now.

On the other hand, in the F2P version, playing the same amount of time only brought me to level 10/12 and gave me many more problems money wise since I don't spend actual money in games.

I prefer only having to pay once and have that new content forever and without restreictions instead of paying over and over just to reach it; in the end of the day you save money like this :)

I paid $4.99 for the Predator Boat pack. For that I got a camo rubber boat with motor and a fish finder. Some high quality tackle, lots of end tackle, 50k credits and 50 or 100 bait coins (can't recall the exact amount). The pack also includes XL Fish Castle that holds 440lbs of fish. That net is something like 1000 bait coins in the game. For $5 it makes a tremendous difference to what you can achieve in the game - the boat is absolutely essential for places like Michigan, Emerald Lake, California and others. I'm level 40 now and there is still a bunch of kit that I am not yet able to buy but that is included in the Predator Boat Pack. An absolute bargain and almost essential.

I do believe the fish are worth far more money in TF than in FP, so that helps a lot.

For instance, I got over $1000 for a 5kg lake trout. I don't remember any 5kg fish ever being that valuable in FP, but don't quote me on it. I haven't touched the free version in quite a while.

Licenses are also cheap, purchasable with in-game currency (not real money or Baitcoins), and last indefinitely. This is not the case in Fishing Planet unless you were grandfathered in while you had unlimited licenses before the update that made them Baitcoin/real money only.

I'm sitting on like 100k right now at level 31, and I'm barely trying. It's unbelievably easy to make money in this game compared to Fishing Planet, even on the lower level lakes!

any one have an idea when this game was last updated ?ie stuff added like venues rods, lures.bait ect ?

This game is a brilliant fishing game. I recommend it all the way. 10 out of 10. Also, I don't understand why everyone is mad about the lack of updates, its a complete game as-is and doesn't need them.

Plus, they are making expansion packs for the game later on this year! :)

it is behind in content by 1 map: blue crab island. and that map is the new DLC. also, its better for it to be a DLC in this version because the FTP version is a far more difficult game (you also have to pay for blue crab island in the FTP version)

Bulls^%t!
Game is atm behind two maps to f2p, both maps are free in f2p!
I don't know the reason why you are lying like this, maybe undercover dev team member...

To the topic question, i've bought game with both dlcs, and imo atm is not worth to buy it.
The main reason is that dev team totally don't give a damn about this version, focusing at f2p cos they making much bigger profit from it, also there are almost 0 activity at the waterways, there are like 120-150 ppl playing atm compare to 4k in f2p,

And this bulls$#t with paid dlcs...
they brought the free updates with new waterways to the free game, and they want to bring the same content as a paid dlc to the game that we already paid 50-60e for...
Imo something is a little bit wrong here, especially that till now they pay2win system was pretty fair in f2p, where ofc you could buy expensive dlc with gear, but the same stuff at different name you can always buy for ingame money(not bc) at higher lvl, so basically you can achive the same just later than players who already paid for dlc.

And now with game that we already paid AAA title money, they planning to bring new waterways that we can get only by buying them for real money. It's just me, or it looks crazy itself?

@EDIT
To all wondering about buy this game, i can honestly recommend to buy some dlc to the f2p instead, at least at the moment, cos game looks dead to me.

I seem to have struck a cord, I mean no offense but I don't own the free to play version, so forgive me for my lack of information. also, good lord what a rant.

To be completely honest, I don't care what you say about this game, its fun and thats all that matters.

Game is not dead, devs are currently working on it. There are still many bugs in TF, more so than in FP. Content-wise FP is better, but if TF gets the same updates as FP it will be by far the better game. No paid premiums, no paid licenses, no paid gear, other than 2 dlc packs at the moment for fast unlocks. There are already many waterways in TF to satisfy almost every need, and when it finally does get the updates and/or DLC’s, you will still save a ton of money going for the TF rather than the FP game.

I made the switch yesterday from FP to TF as I was fed up with the licenses that keep expiring, the gear that can only be unlocked by paid baitcoins, and the ever-increasing price of premium. I am a casual player, that means I don’t play a full week, but rather a day or 2 per week, so in my case TF is by-far the better game, I bought 14 packs of FP and I regret that till this day, I wish I’d have bought TF immediately, no matter the bugs, no matter the lack of updates. TF as it is now, is a great game, just stop comparing it to FP.
