I'm not sure what you mean by Medals. Mini Medals? There are 90 in the game: each of the three major story islands (Furrowfield, Khrumbul-dun, and Moonbrooke) have 10 puzzles that grant one (online maps should be able to show you the locations on each island), and each of the three tablets on Isle of Awakening have 20 targets that each grant one upon completion.
The theme contest that runs every three weeks has similar prizes: the top three get trophies and every player who submits gets a smaller Participation Trophy. The top ten will also show up in the loading screen rotation for a few months.
The turtle-insect editor can of course give you all those items, too, with much less difficulty.
