Map icon issue/ limit not sure which

So trying to make a third Castle but after Joining the 2 room with a shared wall I don't get the map icon. Is there a limit on map icons of the same type or am I missing something.

There is a limit but unclear if you've reached it. As far as I know its one of each type per habitable area. So you can have a Castle in Green Gardens, Scarlet Sands, and Cerulean Steppe, but not two in the same area. For a Buildertopia, its one per island. I haven't experimented though or know what happens if you try to build one on the beach or Mountaintop Temple areas.

That was the issue I had the 2 Castles in the same area thank you. I plan on taking down the old castle down from the story part of the game.

If I have the storyline completed do I have to save everything from it or can I removed building on the main island? Like the ship and castle from the story?

You are free to wipe out anything on IOA once the tablet targets for them are complete. So you can redo or wipe out the river and greenery in Green Gardens, destroy the pyramid in Scarlet Sands (a lot of people like to do this), and wipe out the Castle and invasion ship in Cerulean Steppe (many people wipe out the poor excuse for a castle the residents made.) Though a first time player should maybe wait until all tablet targets are complete, so they don't mistakenly wreck something that could have been useful.

There are some things you can't wipe out though (forcefielded), such as the three tablets themselves, Brownbeard's boat or the sack beside it, the Hammer icon at mountaintop temple, or the flag emblem area at the very top of the mountaintop temple area. You can get creative and cover them up or integrate these features into your architecture though.
