In which perspective do you play?
I've played through the majority of the game in third person mode.

Now I am done with the story and focusing much more on aesthetics in my building. This means for me adding a roof to most buildings.

The third person camera doesn't seem quite up for the task of roofed buildings, so I've been spending more time in first person mode, though I still adventure in third person.

What about you folks? How do you deal with the camera and roofs?

Most of my time is spent in 3rd person. When I need to do more detailed building, in particular straight up and down I switch to 1st person. For most games that have 1st person, such as Skyrim and Fallout, I play in 1st person. But in this game I am 90% of the time in 3rd person.

Obviously the game is designed to be played third person. There's no radar on the HUD to let you know if an enemy is sneaking up on you from behind. (That said it is quite a different experience to go through it a second time in first-person mode.)

But for building, for me its probably 90% third person and 10% first person as Jarl says. Third person gives a better sense of overall placement so you're sure you don't misplace something by a block, but first person gives about a four block range on your tools as opposed to adjacent blocks for third-person (and easier than Buildnoculars for work within this range)

For roofs, I still most often rely on scaffolding platforms. I know tricks like Buildnoculars could do it without scaffolding, but I find it quicker.

I use both equally. Going from 3rd to 1st back to 3rd and then using the buildnoculars in the span of 1 minute isn’t that rare for me. Then again, switching my hammer from the ultimallet to the warhammer and back 9 times in a minute while using the transform-o-trowel every 2-7 hammer switch in the span of 1 minute also isn’t that rare for me. Then you combine the 2…

I played the entire thing through my first time in 1st Person, and I think it's the best way to enjoy the game. ;P It allows me to build roofs and two story buildings the looked and *felt* right all through the game.

Constant juggling act and fighting with the camera.
