why do games always ruin fishing
It should be a relaxing activity not a button mash-a-thon. This game is especially obnoxious.

I'm not sure what'll give first - my left mouse button or my hand x_x

you have a point. maybe just as we get a trowel that can swap modes between fill and swap we could have a fishing rod that can swap between relaxing and mash mode?
i'm just glad we have npcs that can do some of that work cuz i don't like neither options or fishing at all

my time at portia did a pretty good job with fishing.

I don't dispute this. I don't like it when games that should be reasonably devoid of any fast button mashing including minigames or events that require it. From personal experience, I was in an auto accident many years ago and injured my left thumb. Doesn't affect my gaming today, but if same injury had occurred to my right, I seriously doubt I could fish a Whopping Great Whale Shark in DQB2. That's a good 3-5 minutes of extremely rapid button mashing. (Everyone ends up needing a break after fishing a Whopping Great Whale Shark.) When I bought DQB2, how would I have known it would require rapid button mashing? I think it does a disservice to fans when developers slip this in to games that don't do rapid pressing anywhere else and don't give an alternative method to achieve the same results (in this case, an "auto" fishing mode; maybe not 100% effective, but reliable enough to get people past it after a few attempts.)

Reeling in a large fish is anything but relaxing.

Binding attack to scroll wheel might help while fishing, as instead of you mashing a button, every "bit" scrolled counts as an input. You can use the arrow keys to switch items

That will only work as long as the fish is not getting aggressive - when it starts fighting the pull, one has to press and hold the attack button - don't think that can be done woth the mousewheel scroll. And if we bind it to the mouse wheel button it will only be the same button mashing as with the left mouse click.
