Can you grow Glumgus mushrooms?
I saw the blue mushrooms being grown only on malachite tiles in sunny sands. i just feel like it's probably not enough to just make a malachite room to make it grow. has anyone tried to see what the blue mushroom (glumgus) requires to grow?

These are the notes I wrote about it for my FAQ:

Growing Fungi with Mossy Earth or Malachite and Stones:
On Isle of Awakening and Buildertopia, all three types of fungi can be grown on
top of a block of Mossy Earth or Malachite next to a certain type of stone, if
the Mossy Earth or Malachite block are under an overhang or roof. Marshrooms
spawn next to Small Stones or Big Rock, Frogstools spawn next to Mossy Stone or
Mossy Rock, and Glumgus spawn next to Stalagmites or Sizable Stalagmite. Mossy
Earth and Malachite can both be found in the Green Gardens sinkhole. Easy to perform, though it may take some time before fungi appear. This appears
to be normal game behavior but not described in any dialogue so most players
aren't aware of it.

Growing Marshrooms with Vineapples and Glumgus with Shineapples:
On Isle of Awakening and Buildertopia, Marshrooms will spawn on top of a block of Malachite that is adjacent to a Vineapple decoration and Glumgus will spawn on top of a block of Malachite that is adjacent to a Shineapple decoration if both the vine and Malachite block are under an overhang or roof. Easy to perform, though it may take some time before fungi appear. This appears to be normal game behavior but not described in any dialogue so most players aren't aware of it.

There's a bonus trick here for the most eager of builders. Its not needed and I don't suggest it for first timers, but for people replaying it you can get some extra food options while working on Green Gardens: Bring a piece of Ivy (not Dry Ivy) back from Furrowfield (you can bring back one single item in your Gloves at the end of each story island), put it under an overhang/roof and wait long enough for it to multiply and create Vineapples and Shineapples for you (about 10% change it gives apples when growing). Combine the Vineapples or Shineapples with the Malachite or Mossy Earth found in the Green Gardens sinkhole, and you can get the Marshrooms and Glumgus, too. If you take six Marshrooms to make a Marsh-room Room, you can additionally make Frogstools spawn. That's five new items all before visiting Khrumbul-dun, plus the foods they can create (like Shrooms-on-a-Stick.) It can take along time to generate all five items though - many hours real-time.

seems like i figured it out, i grew them by placing those pointy rocks with malachite tiles, so thats what was missing. although not sure if malachite is required, i just imitated the caves in sunny sands.

Thank you for the information, did not know about vineapples, though had some suspicions. i think ill do my grotto a little deeper for the sake of those.

Also for some reason, the glumgus showed up for me maybe twice but then they stopped spawning. is it possible a door should not be used for the malachite cave? maybe it's ok to not have a door at all and let the cave have a small opening as long as a ceiling is present? or maybe that doesn't matter.

Nevermind the above, my "plants grow" option was turned off, so no wonder.

Also a video mentioned having water in cave, is that true or not necessary?

Oh, yes, right. You do need the Plant Growth option turned on. You can't turn that off on IOA until post-game anyhow, so forgot to mention it.

The water in cave is not needed. I've seen that video too - in fact its what prompted me to start investigating what t takes. (particularly if there was any trick to make any of these work at Furrowfield; you can't.) Water "possibly" makes fungi spawn more rapidly or makes vines grow more quickly. Including it in a room with a door might do the same. But I didn't notice any significant difference. Water and doors/rooms are not needed. (Door would help if you wanted basic Room to turn into Marsh-room automatically. But you could just as easily glove your fungi and take them elsewhere.) The only requirements I could see were the base block (Malchite or Mossy Earth), whats type of vine or rock is adjacent to that block, and that there's a roof over both those blocks.

Other things can spawn in the game with the right combination of blocks or items. Of top of my head...
Acorns spawn on Bark Trees made from Bark blocks and Leaves blocks.
Plumberry Trees will spawn in an empty Limegrassy Earth block adjacent to a Stalwort.
Cedar trees will spawn in an empty Snow block adjacent to a Freezia.
Silver Birch Trees will spawn in an empty Grassy Earth block next to a Cotton Plant.
Fright Bulb spawns on a nearby plantable Earth-type block if at least two different colored flowers are nearby (more flower colors means higher rate of spawn though)
Grassy Earth, Limegrassy Earth, and Lemongrassy Earth will slow spread to basic Earth blocks.
You can also get plants and trees to grow into Corrupted forms by using a Planting Pole when not needed (ie, Wheat) or denying one when required (ie, Tomato).
Cactiballs spawn if there's enough Cacti around (it requires a specific number and different sizes, but I've never bothered to investigate the exact rules.)
