Dragon quest and most J-RPJ that have a "cursed" or other seemingly useless items have a way to turn them into some of the most powerful items in their games, and since the sword fits that principle it makes sense to expect that there would be some way to remove the curse from the armour and shield as well.
Oh well, spiked armour is strong enough to make most enemies a joke, especially coupled with that OP sword, and if you also add food buffs then even the guy that gives the sword's recipe becomes a joke (still with a lot of HP but not really dangerous anymore).
Thanks for the answer, now all that I am missing is that "3 stars spiked armour" I guess.
Then the answer is no. Thanatos' Shield and Wailer's Mail have no method to uncurse without unequipping or transform into a curse-free weapon like Sword of Ruin does.
No idea what you mean here. Are you looking at empty block in Builderpedia's Items list immediately following Spiked Armor? If so, the one following Spiked Armor is Wayfarer's Clothes, not some 3-star version.
At this point it looks like there is nothing like that so no clue what these people were even talking about (maybe there is a version of the game where it does have 3 stars since it is the most powerful armour, who knows).
But if they're in there they are named the same, just like Falcon Blade and difficult to identify them as distinct. I've found other things in the data simply because the names don't come up in gameplay (such as music sheets for every BGM, unused tools like Stone Hoe, extra blueprints like Ballista Barricade, unused foods like Shark Fin Soup, and carryovers from DQB1 like tickets for Terra Gladiatora/Battle Atoll.)
If you've got the links for where you saw these 3-star Spiked Armor rumors, I'd like to investigate.
