Personal rooms or dormitories? (not during the story)
So during the story there is little to no reason to ever give individual rooms to people unless they demand it in a quest since you make more than enough from a basic dormitory+food+toilet (+bath if you really want to).

But on the island it can be a bit different, in part because there are a few things that cost quite a bit (3k for an explorer island for example) but also because there are no quest that magically give you several hundreds at once.

Right now I have all 3 areas set with the basics and I am starting to think about what to do next.

Going for personal rooms, maybe not for everyone but at least for a select few and try to catter to them as much as possible (room size, ambiance, fanciness level) seems to be a decent challenge but I am left wondering if it is really worth the effort or if I should just focus on giving them all of the special rooms, each decently kitted out first.

I made a room for Anessa and I noticed too late that I went for a room too small for her but it was too fancy for Esther.
Still, that room ended up generating a ton of hearts because everyone ended up frequently going to that room to admire the plant and plushies.

I am not really trying to min-max but is there a good reason to try to make those personal rooms all over the place?

one time i give a perfect (all 3 things to there like) personal room to someone and i unlock a new hairstyle but it seems not every charakter has that and alsol personal rooms give more heards if the person wakes up

The gratitude bonus is really the only game-worthy reason to give them personal rooms.

But since you only get 100 rooms, blowing more than half of them on personal bedrooms isn't ideal. You only need to make five perfect rooms to get the Emblematic Clock. Anymore is for aesthetics as much as the gratitude bonus. And rooms like kitchens, Dining Rooms, Bars or Party Pubs (especially the Darty Party), and pools generate more than bedrooms - sometimes toilets and baths as well.

The hairstyles come with the first perfect room you make. Doesn't matter who your resident is (Perry, Rosie, and Haydin are all super-easy to satisfy though.) You don't get more hairstyles for more personal rooms (just the Emblematic Clock at 5)

where does it show you their requirements? i read its on the residents register but mines doesn't show that info and there doesn't seem to be an option to tab to another page. do you need to do a mission to unlock it?

I think you have to clear a few things on the main island to unlock that function, it will show you the preferences after that.
I'm not sure about the exact requirement but I would assume that it's "X amount of targets cleared" like for unlocking the extra tools, and it is definitely a fairly low amount if it's that too.

Iirc it was a specific Tablet Target that unlocks your ability to see villager preferences in the guide. I think it was either ambience related or room related, but it's been too long. If you (Stu-1) have any of either left undone, I recommend finishing them.

There is one unlockable item, a huuuge clock made with Zenithium, that requires you to give 5 villagers the perfect room. The swiftest way to tackle this is essentially in the post-game. Lulu, Malroth, Gerome and Jeremiah have the exact same room preference, so you can build one room for all 4 of them. Then just build a room for a 5th person and voila! Since we're already using Moonbrooke peeps, might as well use Haydn for number 5. He wants a tiny natural room, so you can essentially do a 4 square room with a wooden wall. And maybe a straw mattress or something.

You'll be able to see resident's preferences when Blue Tablet is expanded, and clear the tablet targets for room varieties. I'm not 100% sure which one it is- target 4 at 30 rooms, target 5 and 35 rooms, target 7 at 40 rooms, or target 8 at 45 rooms. Given the single perfectly matching room is target 6, it stands to reason that ambiance probably unlocks with target 5 and 35 rooms, if not earlier at target 4 and 30 rooms. (I'm working on barebones playthrough to test minimum limits like this.)

It's at least not the 40 rooms because I don't have that one yet (yes, I know, room count is possibly the simpest way to get medals) with only 36/40 to my name according to that entry.
