Differences between DQB1 and DQB2?
No this isn't a trolling post, I'm genuinely trying to figure this out. I've done a little looking and I come across people going off the rails about the price-point, etc. To me the price is irrelevant -- the price is what the price is lol My question is, what are the differences between DQB1 and DQB2?

I loved the hell out of DQB1 and even the story (was pretty sad but was good). However, what drew me to it was the building aspect. The story being as good as it was, was just a bonus :P

I'll be honest, the game looks basically exactly like DQB1 but only with different areas and a different story, which to me makes it feel like it could have been a purchasable DLC for DQB1 thus making me feel like DQB2 is a cash grab but I could be wrong and I actually hope I am. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

I'm trying to justify to myself to spend another $50 (or whatever the game is at) but if it's literally the same feature-set and like nothing improved in terms of building features or crafting mechanics, etc. then I can't really justify it to myself. So what are the differences besides new areas and the story?

If the building aspect is what you liked best about DQB1, then DQB2 will be a hit with you. It's same engine, which is why it looks so similar, but upgraded with more tools, a lot more building material and decorations (>1000), and some looser limits (larger rooms, taller building space) The demo will show you enough to whet your whistle and show you that it's not just a a redo of DQB1 or that it could have been DLC for it.

However, I find the DQB2 story to be a little weak for the first third of the game. By end of game its actually pretty good, deep and thought-provoking, but it kind of meanders through the first two story islands without much of a main goal (ie, saving the world from some bad guy as typical for RPGs.) Fans of the Dragon Quest series get hooked on DQB1 right from the start, by dropping you into a familiar location (Cantlin) against a familiar bad guy (the Dragonlord.) DQB2 takes a while to build up to that hook.

Almost everyone seems to agree that DQB2 is also a good deal less difficult than DQB1 was. In particular, there is almost no penalty for dying in DQB2, while you'd drop half your inventory in DQB1. The boss fights also can't really be lost except though carelessness in letting yourself get hit by attacks. Golem can easily destroy the Cantlin base in DQB1 (and probably does first time you face him); you can leave the first boss alone in DQB2 for about 20 to 30 minutes and he'll stall out with about 20% of the base remaining. Arguably easier to beat him than to lose to him.

you could try out the demo for this game and the demo is all of the first isle minus the boss and that takes long to get there and you can transvere the demo save to the full game

That's a good point. I think I'll do that, and if there's still questions, then I'll come back and either update the post or something. Thanks :)

Awesome, that's exactly the kind of info and detail I was looking for, thanks! :)
