Though you may have seen some of the DLC at Builder's Workbench already, had you sought out any of the workbenchs on the island before leaving for Furrowfield. And the Pretty Paddle from Knick-knack Pack DLC is buildable at the Anvil on Furrowfield. The first set of DLC building materials (like the Waterwheel) unlocks shortly upon return from Furrowfield as well. But you've got to work until the letters arrive to start the fishing quests.
(EDIT: To be honest, its more difficult for PC players to know exactly what is DLC and what is "base", since its all built-in. Console players who go through the whole game before buying DLC have a better insight on this. So if you built that Pretty Paddle you probably didn't even realize its a DLC item.)
