Kitchen doesn't work?

I got to the point in the story where they tell you to make a kitchen and that they'll cook you whatever you already know how to make. Put all of my raw ingredients in a chest in there and not a single thing has been cooked. Any ideas?

I got the same problem, I built the kitchen and nobody uses it. I think it depends where you build it. The zone of the town is very vague and I think when you build it outside the zone, its no longer accessible to the AI town folks. I recall making the toilet and no one was using it, I destroyed it and built it in the center and they started using it. I just couldnt be bothered to do the same with the kitchen XD

Did it get registered as an agricultural kitchen?

Yes. The first reply was correct, it was on the edge of town and half of it wasn't in town :(
