Yes it is something annoying but if it happens you can hold the V button down (or which one you bound to swap from 3rd to 1st person view) and use the scroll wheel to zoom out/in.
If you are on a controller it should be the holding down the right or left stick to get the same effect for zooming the camera.
It actually does nothing, the camera keeps zooming in
And I feel it's actually more practical for building
I just zoom out every once in a while to check for stuff around or because something can't be done first person (like planting a tomato seed for some reason ?)
This is seriously annoying.
I sometimes suffer from motion sickness in games and it seems to get worse with first person view, what with the head bobbing and all. But i might try to force myself through it if gets better over time. I'm also not a fan of the uncooperative camera control.
Hi !
I now have around 60 hours of gameplay on DQB2 and I played it entirely first person (with a few moments 3rd person to explore big areas or some actions that I'll explain lower)
Considering the gameplay in itself, here is what changes :
- Building and mining becomes incredibly easier, you can build entire rows in seconds (stay pressed), up or down or whatever the direction (Though you'll mine slower because you can only mine one block at a time while you can mine 2 at a time in 3rd person view, but this can be avoided if you press "2" while mining first person, thanks to a bug you'll mine several blocks at a time)
- It becomes harder to see all of your surroundings in open space, so I happen to leave 1st person view every once in a while, when I'm checking for puzzles around in huge fields and so on for instance (in open space only, because in caves you'll have to stay first person or the camera is uncontrolable)
- The game has clearly been developped with 3rd person as a main use, so some stuff becomes stupid hard, like planting tomatoes or placing ladders while climbing, or putting down a shower in a crowded space, that kind of stuff you'll want to do 3rd person, but the change is really fast with "V" (and then the mouse wheel to zoom out), but there aren't that many bugs, I think the 3 I've given are the only ones I've met
Also when you do some stuff you'll get 3rd person right after (like the double attack with Malroth), if you use it in 1st person, you instantly get changed to 3rd person for some reason (and it doesn't revert you have to do it manually)
Fighting also get a little bit trickier because you can't really see how far away you are from the monster (especially when it's a boss with a big reach) but it's fast to figure out how far his attacks actually go
Considering your condition (motion sickness), keep in mind that there is no head bobbing in this game, also you can change the "Field of view" for a larger one in the settings and I think this would definitely help you (less of a tunnel effect) but don't increase it too much, I'm almost at the middle of the slider myself
I think you should try to play like that for like 2 or 3 hours and worst case scenario you switch back if you don't feel so good of course
But the game can definitely be played first person from beginning to the end. I am used to first person myself but I think when you'll have played a lot of it this way (if you don't get motion sickness !), then you'll prefer it this way as well I think
tl;dr : Game can be played first person from the beginning to the end, few bugs (tomatoes planting) but it's really manageable since you can switch back and forth, no head bobbing, I didn't have to get used to first person myself thanks to minecraft and I only get motion sickness in VR so my advices might be biased !
EDIT : Also from your achievement list I can see you've only finished the first island, when you'll get to the second one you'll understand how incredibly better first person view is haha !
Also some tips :
https://www.howtogeek.com/241285/why-video-games-make-you-feel-sick-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/
Advices given in there :
- Adjust field of view
- Turn off head bobbing (not necessary here)
- Don't play in darkness
- Get maximum framerate (here max 60 sadly i think)
- Glasses ?
AND :
- "Power Through It
The last trick is one that will be all too familiar to anyone who finally got their sea legs on that cruise ship: you just have to power through it. While it isn’t a solution that works for everyone, many people report that simply playing video games often enough helped their bodies acclimate to the stimulus, and decreased the amount of cue conflict they experienced."
I'm not sure I would recommend there last advice though, looks like they never had motion sickness lol
Very helpful information all of it. Thank you very much for putting it together! I'm going to try it in short sessions and see if I can get acclimated. I wouldn't look into this if the camera were a little more cooperative, but i somehow feel like I'll have fewer camera issues in first person, especially in houses i build with low ceilings or tight corridors.
Oh also that ever time you start the game the field of view is reset to default.
Didn't know about that on the field of view part, that's annoying
And that's actually very true, fighting on sand in first person is quite frustrating !! But luckily sand beaches are 90% of the time very open space so one could switch back to 3rd person, good point
