Ah, good to know. I really enjoyed the free version so I'm definitely going to pick it one on release. Keep up the good work Zan.
I get you put a lot of time and work into the TC you have created but this is such a bad idea for the Doom community who does these things for free, it's like a staple of said community.
I didn't even know you could use gzdoom and charge people money for it, seriously?
GZDoom is under GPL license as of recently and can be used commercially.
I'll be sure to grab an official copy in the future, at least the price is fair.
I just hope this news of gzdoom doesn't screw up the future of DOOM mod stuff.
Also, you wouldn't be able to sell a Doom mod because you wouldn't have the right for the franchise so right off the bat this area is left unaffected by GZDoom's license changes.
Hedon is an entirely original work (minus some of the soundtracks that were either bought or allowed for use by their authors) so whether I made it in GZDoom or in Unity or whatever it would have been almost the same thing in the end.
Is The Adventures of Square not a 'game'? It is it's own game, but that's a TC that uses doom2 iwad as a base.
Hedon is its own iwad that's the only difference I can see, but I wonder how many lines of code are directly used from DOOM.
We can get into technicalities all day.
If you open the iwadinfo inside the ipk3 you can see the game is DOOM, and in gameinfo i can see it using freedoom.
Can you not say this is a modification?
The iwadinfo mentions Doom simply because that's how the lump was designed. The very purpose of this lump was to allow games to remove licensed files from their composition thus becoming commercially viable.

If in doubt (or if your game has no ties to any of the original games) just use Doom.
In the gameinfo lump, the freedom.wad is commented out with "//" meaning it's not in use. This is a left over from when Hedon did require freedoom.wad to work because there wasn't an iwadinfo lump to use.
@RadioactiveTurtle
GZDoom is licensed under GPL, aka General Public License. It's not idtech or whatever, it's just built upon it to the point where it became its own thing.

Also, feel free to take this discussion over to the ZDoom forums, perhaps making 10 more threads about it will nudge the administrators to put a notice somewhere on a front page mentioning that GZDoom can be used for commercial purpose.
I see. So GZDoom is now completely (or at least enough to use it without legal troubles) using its own code? Cool.
Best of luck with your game, Zan
