Panzer corps 1 or 2?
I'm interested in playing these games after playing 40k armageddon and was wondering which panzer corps game should I get and if they are worth the price or wait for sale?
Also how do the panzer corps games differ from 40k armageddon other than the setting?

SO if you are looking at the most game for your dollar Panzer Corp wins hands down. You also can play campaigns as the Russian, Allies as well as several different German campaigns. PzC 2 you can play as the Germans, but just a short 20 to 23 scenario campaign only at this time unless you buy DLC. The last 2 DLC which are NOT campaigns, you can play as the Americans in the Battle of the Bulge and as the Poles as they get smacked by the Germans. . So for me I would go with PzC. PzC2 is a pretty game but it is not a complete game bar far. The Prices they have listed are not the actual price but promotional prices.
So what you are suggesting is get Panzer Corps gold and wait for a sale for Panzer Corps 2 or wait for a complete edition?
How different are the two games as far as gameplay goes?

The game play is similar and different at the same time. They both use the same base unit types, But how those units work is different. To many PzC 2 is better. But there are many of us that think PzC or OOB (Order of Battle: WW2) are better games. This is an opinion by each person and I will not argue with others that they are wrong or right.

It may take YEARS for PzC 2 to reach the completed stage. PzC and OOB are both basically complete at this point. If you are new to this type of game my feelings are PzC then OOB and then PzC 2 would be the way to go. All 3 games are TBS and cover WW2.
Just a few questions are needed to decide which to go with. Supply, Air power, and Leaders.

For me the things that make this an easy choice is the supply rules. PzC your units have ammo and fuel that at some point exhaust and you need to resupply the units. In OOB you have the same but as long as you can trace to a supply source your units auto supply. PzC 2 Your units have ammo and fuel but as long as they can trace a supply route to a supply source they auto replenish at the start of the turn, Sounds like all 3 are the same? NOT. PzC 2 treats all 4 map edges as supply for BOTH sides. To me this is stupid. Of the 3 games for me OOB has the best supply rules.

All 3 games abstract Air power. The rules are similar but have huge differences. In PzC an air unit can stay in the air until its fuel supply runs out. So several turns. In OOB air units have a movement allowance they can move each turn and an endurance factor which is the number of turns a plane can remain in the air, air units can attack a surface hex then move one hex away to allow other planes to attack also. This allows for multiple attacks on an enemy unit. PzC 2 planes have a movement allowance but all non recon planes return to base at the start of each turn once you attack your plane is stuck in that hex unless you have a double move hero attached on said plane. These differences seem at 1st glance to be small but are HUGE at times. Of the 3 games I like OOB air system the best, yes it is abstract but it allows you to attack and sink enemy shipping in a single turn or 2. Something that neither the other 2 games does.

Leader ship. All 3 games you can get heroes for your units. PzC they are earned and attached to a unit which gives a small bonus to the unit. OOB you earn Leaders that you can attach to a unit and it gives bonuses. There are Land Air and Naval leaders and they can effect the unit they are attached too, some can effect that unit and the surrounding units. PzC 2 you earn heroes as you play and can attach them to a unit. Units can have up to 3 heroes (4 if you have the right general trait). The issue I have with PzC 2 heroes is it becomes getting the "right" combination of heroes so you can eat away your enemy. They were warned early on this could cause issues (as they were warned that the supply rules could as well), But ignored it. To me this breaks the game. Of the 3 games I LOVE the heroes system of PzC 2 BUT it makes the game to much of a puzzle, get the right combo and you are pac man gobbling up the enemy. So I would go again with OOB.

So having covered the 3 reasons to buy a game OOB sweeps all 3 areas. BUT while OOB is free to play ( you get base game with a 3 scenario tutorial that teaches the base mechanics of the game, and can play the 1st scenario of each DLC.) There are 17 DLC for it so that can be pricey,

So bang for your $$$ I would say PzC, you get the complete package. Then OOB and lastly PzC 2. All 3 games are good but for me PzC 2 is built on gimmicks and just does not appeal to me. Of the 3 I have the most hours played in PzC 2100+ then OOB 1700+ then PzC 2 almost 900 hrs. To be fair this could be because of the age of the games. But while I have all 3 to choose from I almost always go with OOB, and have played it more than PzC 2 since it was released.

Hope this answers some of your question.

If you play on an old low power Laptop with HD Resolution, PC1 is better. The Gold edition with all DLC cost less than 2€.
If you have graphic power and can afford to play on 3D, PC2 is better. You can get the main game forl ess than 1€. The main part of PC2 are the DLCs, as the main game has about 25 scenarios (about 60 with all routes), whereas each DLC has 15-30 Scenarios.
I would suggest you start with the main game and see if you like it. For 1 or 2€ you can’t make a big mistake. If you like it, you can buy the Panzer Corps 2 DLCs for less than 3-4€, if they are older than 12 months. The newer ones will cost more. If you want to support the Devs, you should buy it at the regular price.
As the Devs are currently concentrating on War stories and Frontlines DLCs, instead of finishing the Axis Operation West route, it will take probably 2-3 years until the game is complete. So, you would need to wait 3-4 years until a complete Gold edition will be released.

The base price on steam is $30 for PC1 and $40 for PC2 so I'm confused on where you are getting those numbers from.

I played both games alot. While PC_1 was good at its time, PC_2 is better by far.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This is really helpful and detailed.
Does OOB have a german campaign? One of the main things that caught my interest was that PzC 1 and 2 have german campaigns which is a front of the war that I wish more devs covered in WW2 games.

Yes OOB does have German campaigns, That said if you want to play as Germany I would go with PzC as it has a much deeper immersion in German campaigns.

Awesome! I will have to check out OOB and I will have to pick up PzC Gold.

The price on the steam page is the recommended sales price, not the street/Online retail price. I have taken the prices from online price comparison sites (excluding Payment fees, VAT etc.) for central europe.
The price of a game depends on the PPP of the country you live. Valve recommends game publishers a price range of 120-30% of a base price, depending on the IP adress location of the steam customer. You can check the prices in different countries on steamdb.info.
That's fair as a 100$ game price for a Californian guy is equal to 1,2% of his monthly income, whereas a 5$ price is equal to 5% monthly income for a guy living in Benin.
