Bonus objective difficult Czechoslovakia in 1939 DLC
Got to this first battle which I am enjoying. Split up my forces of mostly Panzers and some recon vehicles carried over from Spanish Civil War campaign. I am trying not to destroy any enemy units, just suppress them and make them retreat with artillery, etc. The problem is, I always fail as enemy units with one or two strength suicide attack me and die. How are you supposed to keep that from happening? LOL

The AI aggression rating is bottomed out at 0%, so it's very bizarre to hear reports of them performing suicide attacks.

I suspect it could be a combination of bad RNG luck (bad for the AI, good for the player) causing a lot more damage than what the AI expects, or some very valuable targets the AI just cannot resist attacking. Something like a hugely expensive artillery gun.

Maybe to help, there is this walkthrough guide to help explain a good path to go that doesn't involve having to slice your way through all the enemies on the map, and should reduce the instances of the AI getting a chance to perform a suicidal assault.

Played this mission several times and only had the Bonzi charge happen once. After that i placed an Anti tank unit in support of any units holding the bridges. That seemed to stop the Armour from attacking. With the Inf. i did the same but with Arty, and just kept them suppressed

i play at 0 randomness and enemy units with 1 strength left suicide very often if not always.

Weird. I played this mission 5 times successfully and never saw the AI doing that.

not only in this mission. whenever AI has units with 1 strength it tends to suicide. maybe it´s because of 0 randomness, not sure.

I play on randomness of 10. Like i said only bonzi charged once. Don't keep attacking the enemy, just defend. Once your entrenchment gets up, i'm sure they will stop attacking.

i send a safefile with the AI suicidng on it´s next move to the support, maybe they can figure out what´s wrong with the AI.

I rarely see the AI ever kill itself. In fact it pretty much never happens. Yes they'll attack harshly, but never to the point of committing suicide. If their units are that weak, they're usually too suppressed to act because I've encircled them, or if that is not the case, they will pause to repair and get replacements instead of attacking with only a marginal amount of strength left. This goes double for any of the new 'Harassar' AI units who never fight to the death and always retreat to repair unless prevented from doing so.

I wonder if difficulty settings might be affecting this. I mean, I do play on Generalissimus, and it's definitely not the mode most players play the game on.

Could also have to do with CORE composition and army management. I've never seen AI suicide a weak unit into my very strong and highly overstrengthed units, they always chicken out if they have a bit of damage on them.

I can imagine a weakened 5 strength AI unit trying to take a potshot at a hurt 6 strength unit and getting itself killed through RNG.

But I also play on zero randomness, so my AI opponent never gets the chance to kill itself as a result of 'bad luck'.

Nah! War is no chess game, so I always play with 100% randomness.

the example i send to support:

strength 2 AI infantry, spanish militia, attacks strength 15 colony infantrie on a hill resulting in 2 kills to the AI unit and nothing not even 1 supppression to my unit.
i´m playing on generalissimus with 0 randomness.
In this example i´ve got the no AI allies mod installed, but i´ve seen those suicides a lot even in the base campaign.
@Kerensky maybe u haven´t seen it cause u rarely leave 1 or 2 strength enemies alive? i often do and safe them for next round to train my tanks steamroller.
Kerensky  [developer] Dec 22, 2020 @ 4:08pm
Whenever I leave 1-2 strength enemies lingering... the AI always gives them replacements instead of making them attack and die. It could be your style has broken the AI bank and they have run out of prestige to repair? Despite some players saying retreat and AI replacements are both infinite... both of these things are very limited.

Or I've encircled these lingering low strength units, so they can't act even if they wanted to. :P

i don´t see why suiciding is a good idea when u run out of prestige ;)
Kerensky  [developer] Dec 22, 2020 @ 10:07pm
If it has no prestige to repair, maybe it's deciding to attack instead?

I could see that being an order of operations for the AI to go through.

Try to repair before trying to attack.
Because if it tried to attack before trying to repair... we would always see suicide attackers and never enemy units that repair when nearby your units.

Necro post - but after playing through successfully once, I have returned to find the entire Czech force is going aggro despite me doing exactly the same thing as the first time. It's not just at one spot - it's like a stirred up hornet's nest - all over the map they start heading for my forces - and suicide against them. Turns into a boring scenario as they are all so weak.
Tried an experiment - did nothing - deployed my forces and sat still - and same thing happened - the entire Czech force headed for me and attacked, crossing over the river to reach me.

I'd bet you have either SOE or GC 1939 Mods active.
