Question: hero management
Is there a way to manage heroes effectively ? I feel like I have so many and it's very tedious assigning them at the beginning of missions.

I'd especially like to know if I can unassign them all to at least get a clean slab to start assigning them.

yes you can assign heros. go to info panel of unit. hero tab you get two options , unassign or dismiss

I would like a mass "unassign" key too - similar to the other mass keys, like: undeploy, move to reserve, etc.

Mass unassign would be great! Or sorting for traits. I know there is a double attack hero somewhere in the huge mass of heroes but looking through all of them can be a bit tedious. I feel like the heroes menu is rather underdesigned.

The only heroes you are assigning at the start of a scenario are NEW heroes, all the old ones should have been assigned earlier. To have the ability to unassign ALL heroes would only worsen the issue. Yes the hero menu needs A LOT of rework. Being able to search by hero trait would make the most sense to me as you could find just the hero you are looking for. To remove all heroes would then require you to reassign ALL heroes so if you had 100+ heroes this would be tedious as all get out.

There is no mass unassign feature now, so you would have to go unit by unit to do this. The reassign them. You may well find it easier to keep a list written out of what hero is on what unit. Then you could find the hero you want and reassign accordingly with out having all the heroes to reassign.

There is a search function to find specific hero types but weirdly it just returns a list from which you cannot tell which unit it is assigned to or do anything else, unassign dismiss etc. You can do those things if you scroll through the list of heroes but not via the search.

I agree that if you just assign heroes as you go it's not too troublesome and I only occasionally want to unassign and build out units with heroes previously assigned elsewhere.

I does get tedious when you need to move heroes around, like in the AO45 DLC where you have limited slots and they have you bounce from full armies to say, air units only.

If it helps any, I have invested heavily in heroes since SCW, so I have a lot. I use the unit name field to encode what heroes are in the unit. For instance, my Lion might have

Z V <Special Hero name> = Zero slots, vigilant, that hero. or my Pionere:
F Lightn Butch = Fast Deployment, Lightning attack, Butcher.

Then I can simply click on units or otherwise view them to know who is where.
Also, when I have to move heroes around for air battles, I leave the name intact so I can put them back next scenario.

yes hero management would need a lot of work. the most annoying part is reshuffling between air only or other special missions and the more standard combined arms missions.

I tend to just shuffle the most beneficial ones when air-only or similar missions show up. put down some notes when I take them off a certain unit and reassign to the new one.

Zero Slot, rapid fire, double attach, no retaliation... I don't bother with other ones unless I'm really down on prestige and cannot afford losses/'imperfect' play

It becomes a chore when they stack up over all the AO's but.. can't think of a system that would work better all things considered. Remove-all akin to move to reserve would just complicate things.
