SCW is the first DLC it covers the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War. It is well done but there are those that do not like it for many reasons. There is a MOD in the workshop for allowing you to control MOST Spanish infantry on your side. The default is the PC controls them, and it can be frustrating at times. This also allows you to have experienced infantry as part of your core going forward.
Remember the further you go into the war the worse it gets for Germany. If you want to be on the offensive go with the early years SCW- AO41, after that things get progressively worse for you. They are all well done.
this
if i had to pick one of the AOs: 1941.
followed closely by the latest AO1945
Personally I've never even finished SCW and always start at 1939 which kicks off quite slow.
Overall I'd say AO1941 and onwards DLC improved every time
realizing this by itself is not very helpful...
SCW: great but very hard and due to units involved and lack of core inf units (vanilla) it can be seen as quite "sluggish" imo
1939: good, western front battles especially, otherwise dominated - big surprise - by Poland campaign
1940: great, especially the "Island episode"
1941: the quintessencial panzer general experience: raging across the vastness of Russia, blitzing on and on and on, against soviet tanks that often are better. Culmination in one of if not the best scenario in this game: Moscow 41. yet we see other parts of the world too adding some diversity in units and landscapes.
1942: good, but dominated by ofc Stalingrad, with maps covered a lot in urban terrain... not a fan.
1943: great, not surprisingly dominated by Kursk. Grind against in depth layered defense and elite soviet tank units. I really enjoyed that one
1944: good but short if you only play one path. final battle of AH path is great
1945: good but short if you only play one path. both paths have 1-2 really great scenarios but also quite mediocre ones inbetween
overall campaign is amazing in terms of scenario variety and gameplay imo. fluff i never cared for so no comment on it from me
I used to play this game quite a bit when it first came out, loved it and couldn't get enough of it, now it just bores me for some reason, just can't get into it anymore IDK?
