Question: heroes
I just finished my first scenario of my first campaign: the Spanish Civil War. I was awarded a “two attacks” hero at the beginning of the next scenario.

That is fine and all, but I was curious what other heroes I might be able play with. I had heard somewhere that your hero award is randomly generated, so I tried loading the last turn and completing the scenario again. I still got the “two attacks” hero.

I then tried replying the entire scenario, starting from the main menu; I did things differently the second time I played through the first scenario to ensure this was not an rng seed issue; I still got the “two attacks” hero.

Is it no longer the case that hero’s are randomly generated? Was that never the case? Is it just a feature of the Spanish Civil War campaign that you always get a “two attacks” hero at the beginning of the second scenario?

Heroes are random, but are generated at the start of a campaign. The only way to get a different hero is to restart the campaign. However the Double Attack hero you got is one of the best in the game, so I'd wait a few scenarios before restarting. If you just want to check what kind of heroes there are, you can look it up (there's a list of traits in the Slitherine forums, and discussions on which ones are the best ones) or you can type cheat NewHero (case sensitive) in your chat tab to get a random hero. Doing so several times will give you an idea of what heroes you can get in the campaign(s). Another way is to start with Kill Team, the game will generate three random heroes for you and you can check them out.

For the sake of seeing the heroes, easy enough to go here:

Grab this line
cheat NewHero

And go to town.

Please, if you suggest cheating you better add that you can't get any achievements once you polute yourself with cheating on that savefile.

Note: Heroes are random, computers use a 'seed code' for random number generation, and the seed code for heroes is set at the start of the campaign.
Note2: If you change difficulty between General and Colonel you will get different heroes for the different difficulty levels.
This does not work for the first scenario because changing difficulty requires restarting the campaign from the main menu, which gives a new seed anyway.

Haven't heard the Note 2 part: different heroes for the different difficulty levels. Are you sure you got this correct? If so, please explain in a little more detail what you actually mean. Maybe I'm misunderstanding that comment.

thanks

Ok, understand now. If at the end of a mission you change difficulty it will have a new path for the seeded heroes you gain. I tested this and can confirm it.

Speaking as someone who never gave a ♥♥♥♥ about them, didnt even cross my mind :p

Plus as long as you are trying to cheat by getting specific heroes, why does it matter?

Well, some player may look for achievements and if they have to find out they ruin the opportunity because they cheated, they may rethink about it. That you don't mind was obvious for me.

But I do for example and not only here - but always in ANY Game.

How are heroes utilized?
Wambat Jul 30, 2021 @ 5:38pm
You have to have a hero to utilize one. You can get 3 at the start by selecting Killer Squad as a trait for your commander. You should also get one at the beginning of each scenario after the first in a campaign.

They can then be assigned during the deployment phase by opening the info window on the unit you want to assign the hero to. On the left hand side of that window find “heroes”. Now you can assign the desired hero to the unit. If you have done it properly, the hero’s picture will now show up on the heroes tab in that unit’s info window.

You can assign one hero per unit to start, but can assign more as the unit gains experience, or if you select the “Force Concentration” trait.

You can get specific heroes with: cheat NewHero HeroName it must be the exact name and capitalized example cheat NewHero ZeroSlots gives the zero slots hero. cheat NewHero DoubleAttack gives the double attack hero. Not all heroes can be gotten through cheat codes there are some that will not give you the correct hero, it gives a random hero instead. Also the cp award heros are scripted and cannot be gotten with cheat codes.

Unless it has been changed recently you can assign 3 heroes per unit. If you take the general trait Force concentration it is 4 heroes per unit. General trait Force dispersion (not sure this is correct name) makes it 1 hero per unit and if you take both general traits you can assign 2 heroes. A units experience level does not affect the number of heroes you may assign.

True, the Exp-Hero Combination was part of PanzerCorps 1 if I remember correctly.

Yes, I was going off the information from the wiki, which confusingly provides information without always making it clear which game the information applies to. Thank you for the correction.

Personally i would love if somone found a way to mod in the old PC1 style.
Made units actually unique, versus the current shenanigans.
Granted it did occasionally result in "meh" units with a whole +3 attack in heroes, but on the flip side, that +1range +1 move +2att 88 is godly :p
