Panzer III N has Close Defense of 6 while all other tanks have 0
Hello, this is intended for the DEVs as I think it is the result of a typo during development.
The Pz III N has 6 of close defense. This is odd as there was nothing in the specifications of this model that would make it an exception among all other armored units which have 0 close defense.

Do tanks with spaced armor/side skirts get a close defense increase? I thought I noticed that on several units, but haven't checked all of them.

Yeah I pointed this out a few weeks back. Makes them a lot more effective in cities as they can actually kind of defend. I never got a good answer about what was special about that specific tank though.

There are more tanks with close defence ratings. Still, these are FAR lower than their ground def ratings, so they are still relatively vulnerable in close terrain. IMHO, it is just a thing for later tanks. The T34 model 43 has it, while the T34 model 42 does not. The tanks are almost identical IRL (and in game).

It has both historical and game precedent. I believe they had additional side metal skirts covering the treads. In PC1 they also had high close defense (4-5?), but infantry also had much less hard attack. I think they’re stilll pretty bad here, as infantry will be hitting 9 or so vs. 4 defense.

I think this is WAD. The PZ IIIN was supposed to travel alongside larger tanks and mow down infantry.

Um, no? The IIIN was basically an attempt to turn the obsolescent Panzer III into an infantry support plattform instead because its turret ring could not fit a medium-length 75mm. The whole escort tank thing was a concept german heavy tank battalions tired out for like six months and had already given up upon by the time the IIIN was out in numbers.
