As long as you dont enter Kursk itself, no counter attack comes. So you can chose the moment when it happens

If that's so, then they need a patch to correct this, say have the counterattack occur anyway after a certain time, maybe a slightly randomised time.
I like winning scenarios, but not "gaming" them. Kind of reminds me of the earlier Panzer General where you could fly an infantry to capture an airfield in the enemy's interior, then build tanks and Stug's there. Doable, but totally wrong and unrealistic.
You don't have to "game" the scenario though. You can charge right into Kursk if you want to fight the AI.
