I feel awful
I just want to say that as a Panzer General II veteran... congratulations on creating a game akin to my precious PGII, with a difficulty that rivals that of Cuphead... Seriously. This is insane. I can't get more than 3 missions into each campaign. As someone that has put over a thousand hours into PG2, I just can't believe how stupidly hard this is to me on the default difficulty. I refuse to lower the difficulty because I'm no beginner and I have pride and confidence in my strategic ability. Playing feels pointless and irritating if I'm just going to spend dozens of hours stuck on the same missions. Replay value is great... but only when the replays are worthwhile. I fear that I'll never want to replay these missions/campaigns again due to playing them a stupid amount of time in my attempts to beat the campaign. Why is the difficulty of these missions scaled so horribly? I'd expect this level of difficulty from the last handful of missions in each campaign, not within the first 3. K, whining over. Let's get back to gaming horribly.

Difficulty could be stemming from not being familiar with new mechanics.

It's hard to diagnose where the difficulty is coming from.

What is your list of CORE forces in say... Low Countries, or France?

Are you overrunning a lot, are you using recon to increase firing accuracy, are you using engineers to disrupt enemy entrenchment ratings?

There are no minor/major victories or hidden bonus units so just stay focused on the primary objectives and finish before the timer expires. Panzer Corps 2 is not as hard as you might initially think, the AI in particular is predictable and stupid, but it does require learning the mechanics and utilizing a combined arms approach to engagements. A group of Tiger tanks, for example, are going to be destroyed assaulting entrenched infantry units in difficult terrain (like urban, mountains and forests) with AT guns supporting them.

Nah... I'm sure that'll work out fine!

If you aren't familiar with the suppression and encirclement mechanics, that is probably what you need to learn and I think there is a tutorial for that.

Also, tanks have to stay away from rough terrain and cities now or infantry will slaughter them.

While on the other hand, infantry needs to stay in rough terrain or have an AT gun supporting them or tanks will slaughter them.

After a fight, you can use the log (it's the L key by default) to see an extremely detailed combat report that will show you the mechanics in action.

I finde that all strategies from Panzer general are working in this game also. That means soft the target before attacking them then steamroll them with tanks. Game is quite easy tbh, at least on hard dificulty

I agree. Especially with splitting. My hardest unit are currently two Matilda II units, and I have more than 30 captured points in reserve. xD

Maybe it's time to go back to Battle Academy like me. :steamsad:

Did you finish the tutorial? Seriously, it matters *a lot* to know the mechanics. The game is basically a series of puzzles. Make them well and the game is quite easy for the most part, make them poorly and you will get into trouble. (I got horribly stuck on Dijon the other day until I figured out that I really should use encirclement combined with suppression for a turn or two before attacking. Even if it saves just a few men, you need those later on.)

I tried to explain the basic game mechanics in the video.

Perhaps it will be of some use.

I posted in another thread (any help on how to refer to threads would be appreciated) but:

"I agree with the comments from the PC1 veterans I've seen on the discussion threads in regards to some initial frustrations of players who find the prestige/experience system frustrating.

Part of it is learning how to create a balanced force, smart resource management, effective protection of forces, when to attack and more importantly when not to.

Setting up effective cover/support, suppression then attacking is key. Learning not to fight in the open with unsupported troops or fight infantry in the forest with your tanks etc. Always assign fighter escorts to bombers etc.

Most importantly for new players - At first (or in general) their is no shame in lowering difficulty and playing with the advanced options to give you an edge until you figure out the learning curve.

You can turn off weather, undo any action or have up to 10 general traits/perks if you want just to learn the game without getting frustrated.

Then slowly ease off them in future campaigns to become a master. This will make the learning curve and the replay loop more fun! "

Please note that Norway North is very difficult, despite being just the third mission. I think it's one of the most difficult missions in the campaign, outside of the "Defending the Reich" path. Actually the game can get easier if you manage your core well. I found the USA scenarios almost trivial, for example.

One thing that really helps (after reading the tutorial and forum advices) is to watch some good players. Green Knight here is great at the game, so his videos are very helpful. Night Phoenix is another youtuber I can recommend.

i feel the opposite. i play general and this is too much easy like a cell game

I agree, Norway North is by far the most difficult mission I played. I beat it, but at far beyond acceptable costs. I brought a force of gebirgs and pios backed by light howitzers, basically the perfect comp for the terrain. As always I kept reaction fire on for everything. And I just bled resources. I won but just barely in the timer.

A big part of it is constant bad weather. I use my large air as a pretty potent weapon (2x FTR, 1x Recon, 1x Heavy FTR, 2x Ju88A, 2x Ju87B) so not having it for as much as half the scenario was brutal. I support myself with AA which allows me to defeat AI air easily, so I can afford to have a strike oriented force on max difficulty. Well, except on Norway North

I now strongly prefer Norway South!

BTW you don't need to bother with encircling and surrendering enemy heavy tanks. Use your tactical bombers on them, they do 4+ damage to tanks. I've yet to fight a heavy tank that was at above 6 str, most of them were completely cleared out by tac strikes. You do need to escort your tacs in hostile airspace though, otherwise without reaction fire support they just bleed so hard. Strategic bombers by contrast are great for clearing cities, they eat entrenchment for breakfast.
