Grenadier question
Hi! I really like game so far - it's fun to play and it's not just visual revamp but also a lot of new fun gameplay changes!

In the same time I can't understand what for "Grenadier" unit should be used.
I compare it with Paratroopers(the one that can drop from the sky to poor enemy) and it looks like they are better in case we fight in close terrain - a bit less damage against tanks but they have better initiative, move faster, can "fly", and cost a bit less in case of loses.

It looks like "Grenadier" have better defence on open terrain, but I feel like moving infantry there is bad idea to do, since there are always tank in the bush to finish them off.

Great on defense. Not sure what the big cities look like yet in PC2, but in 1, you’d be able to one shot ISUs in defensive terrain.

Until like 1942 grand campaign it was better just to use normal infantry.

It's good for shooting up other inf, because it has higher initiative and defense, but not much.

But if you're using half-tracks might as well take grenadiers, otherwise maybe not. Then the good old Wehr with a truck (or even without) is quite nice.

Mostly I use them for coolness... :steamhappy:

I think of it as an infantry unit with heavy machine guns capable of destroying other infantry units or threatening lightly-armored units. They move slower than normal infantry so, like engineers (Pioneer; sp?), be sure to give them a ride!

Thank you!
It's probably best to just stick with pioneers(use halftracks to juise their soft attack up). I'm thinking about working on a units.csv where infantry is abit more interestingly balanced against one another.

In theory grenadiers should perform well in open terrain against other infantry. I say in theory because you don't normally want infantry out in the open at all, because anything more advanced than early game tanks will destroy them. As much as I love the idea of mechanized Panzergrenadiers, they're just not terribly useful.

Grenadiers are too slow, and it's expensive to make them go faster. You could use them for defense, but in the Campaign there isn't a lot of defense for Germany. Maybe in PvP games, Grenadiers make more sense?

The opponent just buys a tank and laughs at you in the places where grenadiers are better than other infantry. Pioneers are better in defense because they have significantly better close defense so they take a lot less damage in attacks.

In "Order of Battle", a similar (Heavy Weapons) infantry unit had mortars (with a range of 1) which gave the unit more combat options. The unit was switchable between the two modes: direct- and indirect-fire; guns and mortars, respectively. I think that would be a cool addition to this game.

This is something similar to what I plan to do with HW infantry in my mod.
